From Subsistence Farming to Resilient Livelihoods: How #HanaanoProgramme Is Driving Nutrition and Income Transformation in Rhamu, Mandera. In Rhamu, Mandera, Kulmiye Mother-to-Mother Support Group (MtMSG) is redefining farming pathways, transitioning from small-scale production into a resilience-driven livelihood model. What began with vegetables, maize, cowpeas, and watermelon has expanded into papaya cultivation, deliberately diversifying crops to strengthen household resilience, improve food security, and enhance dietary diversity. This is more than production; it’s a strategic shift toward sustainable income and improved nutrition outcomes. Through the Hanaano Programme implemented by @RACIDA_Ngo in partnership with @Concern and funded by @Irish_Aid , MtMSGs are proving to be high-impact platforms, equipping women with the skills, knowledge, and agency to move from subsistence to sustainable livelihoods.

🌡️ Extreme heat is already affecting crops, livestock, forests, fisheries & the people who produce our food. New @FAO-@WMO report on #ExtremeHeat & Agriculture shows the impacts & #ClimateAction needed to respond to this growing threat. 🔗 doi.org/10.4060/cd9394… #EarthDay

Today, clean water flows steadily from newly rehabilitated water kiosks, supported by an upgraded, climate-resilient system built for reliability and sustainability. This complete rehabilitation was implemented through the #HANAANO Programme by @RACIDA_Ngo in partnership with @Concern and funded by @Irish_Aid, a strategic investment designed to strengthen water systems as a frontline defense against vulnerability and child wasting in Mandera Triangle’s drought-prone context. What once meant long queues, unreliable access, and unsafe water has been replaced with a structured and efficient supply network. A 50m³ elevated steel tank now boosts pressure and storage capacity. Transmission pipelines have been repaired and optimized. Chlorine dosing units ensure continuous water treatment and safety. New sanitation facilities reinforce hygiene and public health outcomes. At the kiosk, mothers fill their jerrycans with confidence. Children no longer walk long distances in search of water. The system delivers, consistently. The impact is measurable: over 12,000 households in Yabicho B now access reliable, safe water, with an additional 4,150 households in neighboring villages supported during periods of scarcity. This is more than infrastructure rehabilitation. It is resilience in action, restoring dignity, strengthening community systems, and securing a safer future. #RACIDA #HANAANO #PreventingWasting #ManderaTriangle.
