IRISS is prepping for hail season! RAAVEN-9 rests near the tarmac where the IRISS team has prepped a few "hailstones" for test runs. Gogo @nsf_icechip!

The IRISS team just completed a three-week field deployment using the Super Raaven UAS to conduct autonomous targeted observation of severe convective storms. The IRISS team conducted four coordinated UAS missions on three separate severe convective storms. Great job, team!

IRISS was able to successfully test our new Enterprise Mount onboard the RAAAVEN aircraft. The purpose of testing done today is to increase the quality of our data as we prepare for future deployments. We are excited by the initial review of our data! #CUIRISS #CUEngineering

Usually, when a balloon is launched to the stratosphere, it is carried considerable distances. Not so last week when a high-pressure system produced almost no upper or lower level winds. Big thanks to Aaron in Littleton! #CUEngineering #CUIRISS

IRISS has been putting our 3D printing equipment from the fab lab to use in the fight against COVID-19. A small production line has been set up at the home of Engineering Manager, Steve Borenstein, to produce face shields for doctors and nurses.

CIRES/@CUBoulderATOC's Gina Jozef and CIRES fellow John Cassano, and CIRES/@NOAA_ESRL's Gijs de Boer (@deboerg) use incredible drones from @CUEngineering to study the Arctic atmosphere.

Gina Jozef (#CUBoulder) is involved in #MOSAiCexpedition #drone operations:“Our drones can fly up to 1000m high, measuring temperature, wind, turbulence, etc. Our interest is to learn how the #Arctic atmospheric boundary layer responds to changes in surface features."📸C.Rohleder
