Backlash. The Government has managed to piss-off the whole country today with their insulting €250m emergency package announced this afternoon. Until people protest, like we did when they tried to introduce water charges for a second time - they will continue to insult us.

Reminder that the windchill tomorrow morning will bite so dig out the big coat. Seems government are doing very little for home heating oil price 😐

Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael proposals on petrol and diesel don’t go far enough and abandon households relying on home heating oil. We opposed those proposals tonight. Our amendment, which Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael opposed, would have cut diesel by the maximum and cut petrol by the same amount and would have removed excise entirely from home heating oil. That’s the type of support that workers and families needed tonight. We won’t settle for anything less and will continue to fight your corner for what you deserve.

Government leaders have tonight agreed to cut excise duty on diesel by 20 cent and by 15 cent on petrol until the end of May. The changes will take effect from midnight tomorrow subject to Dáil approval. jrnl.ie/6992285t
