Today we honor the life of Kristin Smart on her birthday.
Kristin was 19 years old and a freshman at California Polytechnic State University (Cal Poly) when she was murdered in 1996. While accountability was secured with the 2022 conviction of Paul Flores, Kristin’s remains have still not been found.
The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office remains committed to finding Kristin and bringing her home to her family.
If you have any information, no matter how small, please contact our Detective Division at 805-781-4500 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-549-STOP, or visit slocrimestoppers.org.
Kristin is not forgotten. 💜

Singer Jelly Roll struggles to make it through his song after noticing a young fan who recently lost her mother.
The girl was seen crying in the stands while holding up a sign about her mom.
“What a strong young lady it takes to be here representing your mama like that.
And I'm not sure that I can say anything that can make it better…”
“I hope you know that it's okay to not be okay. But I promise you, it's going to be all right.”
“We're going to dedicate this to her…”

Two 19-year-old Mexican counselors, Silvana Garza Valdez and María Paula Zárate, saved nearly 20 young girls from the deadly Texas floods at Camp Mystic—and the U.S. media has barely said a word.
As floodwaters from the Guadalupe River surged into Camp Mystic before dawn, the two counselors sprang into action. They woke the youngest campers, helped them escape through cabin windows, and tied a clothesline across the rising current to guide them to safety.
Even after being swept away themselves, they kept shouting instructions—refusing to give up until every girl made it out alive.
Silvana and María Paula are heroes in every sense of the word.
So why aren’t they being celebrated?
Why isn’t the media honoring the bravery of two young Latinas who risked their lives to save others?
America should know their names.
Show them your gratitude.
