@7tobeexact it really is. I always just remind myself that he's still only 18, and hasn't left the conservative small town yet. there will be more chances even if we have to write them ourselves, and they have the rest of their lives to figure it out

@dreamingfinch Everytime I see a picture of Mike as a kid I think "they left him in the closet" and I start full on sobbing. The look in his eyes in this scene specifically, when he looks at the binder with infinite sadness, but resigns himself to remain silent, is truly heart breaking

all of my queerbait musings always come back to gayofthefae's comment here that I saw the day after the finale. the intentional ambiguity means it doesn't feel like "mike turned out to be straight all along," it feels like they left him in the closet to rot

I actually don't believe the duffers wanted us to think mike is straight, they wanted him to be ambiguous enough throughout the show to keep people wondering. bc that's how queerbaiting works. if he was obviously straight there'd be no discussion to be had in the first place
