Moved into my new house last year, so my vegetable garden is just getting started. Dug out a small area to squeeze something in while planning a bigger one with raised planters. Packed it with: banana trees including a blue banana variety, ginger, turmeric, several pineapple varieties, sunflowers, corn, eggplant, peppers, purple/orange/white sweet potatoes, green beans and carrots. Yes, I know my house looks orange. Wanted to paint it right away, but my daughter says it adds character and won’t let me paint it 😆. What do you guys think of the orange? Agree with her or should I paint it white? Will check back in a few months to see how the harvest goes!

@tist52019496 I’ve never grown asparagus before. Grok said it takes a few years to get your first harvest. Is that correct?

In Florida, a lot of older homes are this color but people tend to update it to a more modern color. My daughter says it’s cozy and doesn’t like my white idea. I’m really excited about the banana harvest…could take about a year for the first batch. The pineapples could take two years.

@Rocket_Ismail68 I’ll definitely pack it with more ingredients next time. Maybe ground meat and ricotta cheese to make it taste more like lasagna. I was surprised it held together

My mom made me a cookbook of recipes I loved as a kid, with stories of how she learned each from her mom and photos of us eating them. This page shows four generations of women—my brother as a baby, me as a toddler with my mom, grandmother, and great-grandmother—alongside the ham recipe from my great-great-grandmother. Knowing the history and traditions behind food makes it far more enjoyable. I hope to create a cookbook for my children, filled with pictures of them eating the food, to carry on the tradition. Do you have a nostalgic comfort food with a story?

@sukudead Chicken and vegetable soup is such a comfort food and no one does it better than your own mom! 🩷 My Mom had a similar problem when writing some of the recipes. She was so used to making them that she never measured and had to really pay attention when writing it for me.
