@chesscom No one alive today since Magnus Carlsen is better than everyone else including Gukesh. From the past obviously Morphy, Philidor, Greco, Ruy López de Segura and many more. Also Bronstein since he was forced to lose the match against Botvinnik! en.chessbase.com/post/bronstein…

@chess24com It should be a lifetime ban from chess! The GM title should be revoked since Kirill Shevchenko might very well have cheated when playing games to obtain GM (and IM) title.

GM Kirill Shevchenko has been handed a three-year worldwide ban from chess, with one year suspended. He has admitted to hiding a phone in the toilet but denied that he "effectively" cheated and that it had any influence on his games. chess.com/news/view/kiri…

I am very fortunate to know all five of these legends and World Champions, and even played against 4/5. They were very kind to me, and incredibly generous with advice and encouragement. Unfortunately, only Karpov is still with us. Can you name them all? #RebelQueen (Photo by Velikhanzhin) @FIDE_chess @ECUonline @ruchess_eng

@chesscom At 4 years and 6 months when Carlsen did not yet know the rules of chess. With Capablanca it would be 2 years and 6 months. When Capablanca was 3 years old he taught himself the rules how the pieces moves by silently watching his father play chess.

@GMJuditPolgar Wow it is bigger than I thought! I studied the Fischer Clock patent years ago. Thanks for sharing the photo Judit! I saw the first FIDE version of the Fischer clock at the Olympiad in Moscow 1994. I also met you there as a spectator!

@anishgiri Bobby Fischer, who might have had the strongest memory of all chess players in history said ”I don’t think you can memorise opening theory for 960 starting positions. It is too much, all those variations would be bouncing around in your head.”

Pretty sure if chess actually was chess960, the guys with good work ethic and good memory would get a much larger opening advantage than right now. 960 is a lot, but according to my estimate it will take less than a year to get significant opening work done.

@SusanPolgar @x3firearms @FIDE_chess @ECUonline Fischer said in an interview ”They call it Chess960 because they don’t want to associate my name with it!” Are you sure Fischer was OK with ”Chess960”? The original name is apparently FISCHERANDOM (with one R). That is what Fischer wrote in the original rules.

@SusanPolgar Did you and Fischer think about removing the classical chess starting position from the set? How did you reason about it? I don’t like that they removed it in ”Freestyle”, and after revealing the starting position allow analysing and moving pieces before the game during 10 min.

White to move and win?? 🫣😱🫢 When I started to learn chess over 50 years ago, I was never taught how to win with 2 Knights versus King. 😂 When I worked extensively with Bobby Fischer (back around 1993) to create the current official rules for Fischer Random/Chess960, we did not discuss this either. 🤣 #FreeStyleChess #Chess960 #FischerRandom
