The ancient Britons burned down London after the Romans raped two women. Today's Brits will do nothing. Not because they are more enlightened, not because they are more moral. But because they are less.

Took me about 3 months of living in nyc before it clicked why citibikes are so popular here: personal bicycles would get stolen. Rich ppl promote crime then a rich bank makes a profit renting out bikes. Turn a quality-of-life problem into a recurring revenue opportunity. Nice.

We have the text, the deal is absolutely terrible, there's no getting around it. The text gives Iranians huge, immediate financial benefits and protection for Hezbollah in exchange for opening the Strait - and nothing else. President Trump should renege.

Just hours after Russia began its full-scale invasion of Ukraine, Darializa Chevalier blamed the US for "bullying Russia" and accused Washington of stoking the war for profit. Copy-and-paste Russian talking points. She's the Mamdani-backed challenger to Rep. Adriano Espaillat.

@CamdenHutchison Somebody should buy you a ticket to Milton Ontario or Dearborn Michigan. Alternatively, stick to law & Econ or whatever your specialty is. Such a sweeping statement backed by nothing but hollow level analysis.

Both Canada and the U.S. are highly assimilationist, and that's a good thing. "Multiculturalism" is really about Quebec. No other group is actually encouraged to maintain their own culture and values beyond the most superficial level (cuisine, festivals, etc.).
J.J. McCullough@JJ_McCullough

In both Canada and the US people say that immigrants don't assimilate. Some see that as good, others bad. But as people get more distant from the old country, they do become part of a new culture. Whether you call that "assimilation" or what, it clearly happens in both places.

Here's how this works: The Bruce Arthurs of the world either didn't utter a peep or were openly supportive of the Trudeau government's changes that softened the Criminal Code and our criminal justice system. Now that the Carney government is reversing some of those changes and promising to get tougher on crime, there are no peeps uttered. Soft on crime was liberalism. Tougher on crime is liberalism. Liberalism isn't a set of defined values to them. It's power and keeping scary conservatives away from power. And if the scary conservatives propose things that the new liberals of the day adopt, that's good because what may have been scary conservatism is now good liberalism.
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

Bill C-14 is now law in Canada. More than 80 changes to the Criminal Code to tighten bail and sentencing laws. To keep violent and repeat offenders off your streets. To keep you and your community safe.
