So, so excited to release the findings of the first 18 months of our Fruit & Veg on Prescription projects! It has been humbling to evidence the impact of this initative. The health & wellbeing impacts surpassed my expectations - read the report here: alexandrarose.org.uk/press-release-…

Went to see River of Black Stone by Emii Alrai @emiialrai at @ComptonVerney a journey into the depths of a fictional volcano, where artifacts are vitrified by lava or eroded by touch. Inspired by Volaire’s An Eruption of Vesuvius by Moonlight (18C). Worth a visit! @ace_midlands

Shocking insights published by @AmyDeptford1 today - The Local Authority public health grant has reduced in value in real terms by 27% since 2015/16 No wonder health inequalities are at record levels We'd need a £1.5bn increase to restore it to its 2015/16 value
Obesity Health Alliance - Account Inactive@OHA_updates

This week, we are sharing expert blogs to launch our Local Government Position Statement. Secondly, we hear from @AlexRoseCharity on why restoring the public health grant will give a vital lifeline for local authorities. #PowerToPlaces obesityhealthalliance.org.uk/2024/09/10/phg/

I am very happy with my bouquet of organic garlic, if you can’t tell. Only £1.10 for 4 bulbs! 📍 Teviot Centre food co-op where organic fruit and veg is discounted by 50%

Loved taking part in this earlier this week - great to see so many innovative, thoughtful work happening at scale in the US and Europe. Happy to be a representative of the UK's approach to vouchers and food poverty action

Great visit to @LimehouseTH all-organic food co-op this morning 🥬 When I was waiting for the doors to open, I spoke to new regular Barbara (50s) who was waiting with me. After her shop she pointed to her two full bags, “This was all £13, it’ll last all week”

We are so close to our target🤞🤞🤞 When someone is struggling, research shows the first thing to go in the household budget is veg. Your donation will go towards helping families and people with multiple, long-term health issues prioritise veg this Christmas 🧅🥬🥦🥕🫛🥔

Unfortunately, the demand for our work has grown the last year and we have never supported as many families and people with multiple, long-term health issues as we do right now. If you can spare £5, it will help us advocate for much larger change that needs to happen.

A horrible but extremely important study here. I have said for years that we don’t place enough focus on just how many sex offenders are in our society, which increases victim prejudice and victim blaming. We always hear ‘1 in 4 girls will be abused’ or ‘1 in 3 women will be raped’ - but we never hear ‘1 in X men are rapists’. This study of 1900 Australian men follows the similar studies in USA and UK. Key findings here: 1 in 10 men admitted to sexually abusing a child 1 in 6 men reported being sexually attracted to children 1 in 15 men said they would have sexual contact with a child under 14 if they wouldn’t get caught The men who offended against children were more likely to be professionals, married, earn higher incomes and work with children. Whilst we might not like this stats and results, we cannot continue in our sector without accurate estimates of how many people are abusive and dangerous. All of our stats are based on victims, but no one wants to talk about the sheer amount of abusers - millions of them in our societies. Work like this is vital, in my opinion, to end victim blaming. If there are millions of these offenders, how can any person or agency blame the victim? How can they claim they should have seen it coming? Or should have known? Or should have protected themselves more? THIS is the real reason why sexual violence and child abuse is so common - not because victims have ‘vulnerabilities’, but because there are millions of perpetrators in every corner of our lives.
