Matt Firor talks about (ZeniMax) Project Blackbird (sci-fi MMO) and why he left after it's cancellation Matt describes it as a “pretty devastating blow.” Blackbird was the game he had waited his entire career to create. “This idea around for a long time. And it was finally playable and fun.” “I think it's a missed opportunity for me for ZOS for Bethesda for Xbox. I think it would have been a fantastic game.” “The world probably would have been a better place with that game in it.” He didn’t agree with the cancellation but said he understood the reasoning: the project represented a large line item on a ledger that became subject to cost-cutting analysis. It wasn’t personal toward the individuals at Xbox/Microsoft (he noted there were many great people there), but the scale and financial pressures of a large public company made it inevitable in his view.
