It regulated it strictly, gave slaves rights like food, clothing, and kind treatment, and made freeing slaves one of the highest acts of worship. It also made the children of concubines free and fully legitimate. The Prophet himself freed many slaves and taught that the best among you are those who free them. Maria was honoured as the mother of the Prophet’s child and lived with dignity in her own home. Even the same Biblical figures people respect today had concubines and slaves: Prophet Abraham had Hagar, who bore Ishmael. Prophet Jacob had Bilhah and Zilpah, who bore him children. King Solomon had hundreds of concubines alongside his wives. These are respected figures in both the Bible and Islam. Nobody calls them immoral today because people understand the historical context. So when people isolate Muhammad and ignore the world he lived in, it is not honesty, it is selective criticism. He came into that same world and raised the standard, especially for women and slaves. We do not hide our history. We explain it properly. Islam brought mercy and justice step by step, within a real society, not in theory.
