The search has come to an end.
Sadly, police located a deceased male in waters off Frankston around 2.30pm.
The male is yet to be formally identified but is believed to be the missing crewman.

Emergency service helicopters, planes and boats are circling Port Phillip Bay in a desperate search for a man who's vanished from a ship. The crew of a commercial ship discovered a crew member, a man in his 30s, was missing after leaving port and approaching the heads around 8.30pm. @3AW693

@heidimur A regular occurrence for VLine commuters these days

This is doing the rounds again. I’ve previously posted about it.
Appalling airmanship by United. No way would I be putting my jet this close behind someone else with jet engines… even a ‘lightie’ like an A320! Massive brain fade!
PS: I hate seeing a 767 treated that way!

The Triton was part of an ADF testing exercise that’s been underway for several days, well before last night’s fire …The exercise also involved 2 x P-8 Poseidons … hunting for Chinese submarines off the coast of Warrnambool, is more plausible than your suggestion that the drone was monitoring the Corio refinery

I want to know why this military surveillance drone was hovering around that area at the time of incident.

@OperationalInc1 As long as my taxes are paying for it or in the case of the AFL subsidising it
English

…. while it certainly has nice aspects, especially reflecting back to the post war, suburban-parochial era where it began, it’s become the AFL’s version of a nepotistic monarchy and potentially denies someone else a chance.
Talent is (typically) not genetic, and with the ever-rising price of club membership and the massive amounts of taxpayer dollars flowing into the AFL, a family name, (or an old school tie) shouldn’t be an automatic gold access-all-areas ticket.
My view is that a talented kid from a poor, struggling family in the regions or outer burbs, shouldn’t be passed over just to favour the sense of entitlement from a former player’s child.
It’s a hangover/inequity similar to MCC Members getting privileges and priority for taxpayer funded events at the MCG. (I understand the historical legacy agreements, but we live in a very different, more complex world these days where the foundation of equity prevails)
English
As an old fashioned fan of footy and its history I love @AFL Father /Son rule. In the age of often ruthless professionalism this great tradition ..and quirk..enhances fans’ club connections,as a famous name adds to club history over generations. It’d be a big mistake to dump it.

Somewhat of a concerning quote on the front page of tomorrow’s Daily Telegraph.
If the quote is attributed correctly, perhaps ADF Chief Vice Admiral Hammond’s newness to the role is causal, however, the ADF are instruments of government policy, not proponents of it; and certainly the ADF should not at any time commentate on the status of Australia’s foreign affairs.

After a long solo news shift with blaring scanners, TV’s, program audio, intercoms, cutting grabs, shouty AFL commentators in the next studio and hearing my own voice, I absolutely cherish the serenading silence of the bush and just sitting on the deck staring up at the stars when I finally get home.

So …. Going to be an interesting exercise for US naval vessels in the M.E.… aside from the very problematic barriers to any physical ‘enforcement’ of civil maritime ops, the President’s proclamation incorrectly assumes every ship movement is a singe point-to-point voyage.
Reality is that there is little propensity for the US to audit, control or police the cross-port cargoes that transit ex/via Saudi, Kuwait, Iraq etc -
Similarly, the US is in an awkward position if say, Chinese vessels do S-T-S xfers within the Gulf, which technically are compliant with President Trump’s edict. (There’s +23m barrels of Iranian oil already afloat stored on non-Iranian flagged tankers ….‘guessing’ origin won’t justify intervention, and the US v China game is not one that ends well for anyone)
And just to add a further dimension to the quickly shrinking geo-political chessboard: ….if the US action prompts the Houthies to choke the Bab-el Mandeb, the pressure from the EU on the US rises dramatically (notwithstanding that the many EU nations are already not fans on the back of the US slamming them & NATO)
Meanwhile, Israel continues to plod along on with its own homegrown DIY version of the war, further fragmenting and frustrating any potential resolutions and trusting the dollars and munitions will continue to arrive & the US will do the heavy lifting on their behalf
With net global inflation already lifting above 5% and likely to soar higher, the odds of a modern era GFC-like depression greatly increases.
The economic legacy impacts of this ‘buy now - pay later’ war are considerable and are being lost in the political PR grandstanding that is obsessed with grasping more foreskin than foresight

After a month of disruptions to facilitate Metro rail works, @VicGovAu leaves regional commuters with a ‘new’ 90 minute weekend timetable that’s serviced mostly by 3 car ‘standing room only’ trains .. (plus locked waiting rooms on a freezing winter morning)
Lots of very frustrated country people not happy with local Ministerial MPs who travel the 70 mins to Melbourne in taxpayer funded chauffeured luxury. (For balance, they’re equally frustrated with the Opposition who are MIA …)
November election is shaping up to be a repeat of @jeff_kennett ‘s 1999 regional nemesis

@mjgal Actually MJ - I think the new Gather Round contract should explicitly require SA to keep them there .. i.e. create the social media version of Maralinga (explosives optional)
