I saw many people being confused about where Netease used AI or even people defending Netease. So, I'm gonna make a thread 🧵 about every (I'll try...) AI incidents. I'm gonna talk about both Idv and Marvel Rivals, since they are both made by Netease

idv may mean a lot to me, and it may be my only source of income atm due to my disability; however, i cannot stomach supporting a game that cant support its community or artists. its truly despicable that theyre becoming purely ai.

please do not give into hopelessness bc they didnt make a statement or because you think they wont listen. pessimism is what they want they want you to give up they want to wait it out. you have to stay hopeful and stick with ur values thats how boycotts can truely be affective.

keep vigilant about who you support in the idv community. the actions people are choosing to take rn are very telling 🤷‍♀️

you can say you hate GEN AI and don’t support Netease or Joker Studios using it. But if you’re still playing the game and promoting their game(s) as content creators, TO PUSH THEIR GAME ONTO NEWER PLAYERS. You are apart of the problem. Please keep boycotting the game until we get a response.

btw guys pls remember you do NOT have to stop enjoying ur characters / stories / fanarts for IDV just bc of this AI shit, make it ur own thing, it shouldnt stop you experiencing joy. just dont fund the company themselves.

While this is concerning, there is some good news to this: NETEASE EXECS HAVE ACTUALLY ACKNOWLEDGED THE CRITICISM Please don't let this deter you. The fight is still not over. Keep protesting, boycotting, and don't lose hope. They are listening.

Because it needs to be said: I think it’s important that people address how they feel to the appropriate people - but just like every single community going through the same in their own fields - it’s so important that we don’t unwisely misguide fury causing it to tear each other apart and set internal fire to the homes we’ve built when trying to address a specific mechanical flaw happening outside the house. Im sure you all have heard something similar: but it’s not necessary to rip and destroy an entire canvas to fix a problem related with the brush. AI is new, yes, but we are not new to the history of humanity and how we’ve handled unfamiliar and undesirable technologies or situations. Community will always be the most valuable thing and that is something that should be pushed forward front and center, especially now. You can be vocal about what ails you while also keeping your fellow artist safe and driving art to the top where it belongs - Both things can exist at the same time. All feelings are valid because all artists are gripped with emotion and fear at the presence/potential of losing their jobs - but we also need to be mature about this and understand that human’s strive for progress versus power is a long game of chess and the priority ALWAYS needs to be protecting your flock. It may be hard to see things in such a way right now because we are all at an emotional climax, and there will be oh so many…. But we need to be open soon to a discussion about how we plan to live alongside AI - because it’s not leaving us in the immediate vicinity; just as much as the discovery of photoshop and cgi didn’t leave us (yes, some of us were around for those and we remember those ‘dark’ times too, while not as large scale as this). I promise you, humanity won then and it will win above these shaky times too. Keep doing what you’re doing and don’t lose effort. If we have to live w a harsh reality that we live in a capitalistic system and are forced to swallow this because cutting corners saves someone on top a lot of money: then let’s use that to our advantage - you are the paying client, and you are not happy with the product being delivered. This is not by any means a soap box moment to halt any movement - on the contrary, this is solely to protect the people I’ve connected with in the past, future, and my most valuable present. I am extremely grateful to the art team for bringing me on board and believe we can most definitely find a symbiotic relationship where fans and devs can interact about what works/does not work for them - and I have full faith that valid concerns will be addressed. Now more than ever, we need to celebrate art and show NE and, heck, the world - how much good can come from that. Anyone who knows me personally knows that I think it critically important to see the glass half full vs half empty. Small and negative thoughts can cause major ripples and waves in a community as much as positive ones can. WE get to dictate that, not anyone else, and that is so freaking fire and peak (I’m dangerously exhausting my borrowed Gen Z meter here lol). I invite you to not put down your fellow artists for pumping out artwork, products, and content on the things that brought us all together in the first place. Artistry feeds humanity. Things will work out because they always have, trust. The house may have been built for you, but you ultimately get to decide the home and family you want inside. Take care of your mental health - It’s ok to take a break and recoup…. To close this long essay: My VA work is trivial compared to the artistry I’ve been shown here and it is my BIGGEST FLEX knowing you fine individuals - Every last one of you…. Just please make sure to care for one another and don’t forget the main objective: To protect the flock and place art above all the other noise. Let’s celebrate art ♥️🎉

The boycott is turning into a witch hunt,we're losing the plot. Stop attacking others, stop spreading lies saying something is ai when it's not. I'm starting to feel discouraged bc netease is never going to take us seriously that way, might as well quit the game for good already.

i don't know who needs to hear this but moral superiority will turn u into a bad person. it's ok to be frustrated but please don't harass people! use the time to spam comments, leave bad reviews, and send emails. if u want to be mad, be mad at netease!

Omg why am I seeing some people turn the anti ai boycott on artists 😭😭 you can't criticize idv for firing their artists and then turn around and shame artists into hiding their work, please. You're supposed to support them!! Don't let your anger get directed at innocent people

Loving a piece of media earnestly means speaking up and holding its creator accountable when it causes others harm,, not ignoring it and acting oblivious to continue enjoying it

idk of anyone else grew up hearing the John Henry folktale but with the current idv ai situation it’s got me thinking about it again. I recommend reading it if you get the chance, it’s got a really powerful message that’s always stuck with me

@baizemim I feel the same way. it’s gut wrenching to see the game i once praised for its uniqueness and creativity turn to laying off their employees in favor of using generative ai. art and the expression of it is deeply important to me, i hope idv hears our concerns about this :(

not to sound sappy, but its genuinely so disheartening to see idv go the direction it is. i have adored this game since 2019 and it became my main interest and passion quickly. ive met so many wonderful people that i still care about, and to see all of this happen.. it sucks

if youre turning this boycott thats against ai into something against artists who hold a sincere love and passion for this game: you dont actually care about the cause, youre performative.

Hit them where it hurts people, money money money, they dont get that, they bend.
