Here's what's wild: Trump is asking a government whose own southern territory is occupied by Israel to fight a group whose entire justification is resisting Israel's occupation of southern Lebanon ... Al-Sharaa is supposed to attack Hezbollah while Israel sits on Syrian soil. That's insane. Syrian forces entering Lebanon would create panic among Christians, Druze and Shia. And reinforce Hezbollah rather than weaken them. Hezbollah's entire brand is protecting Lebanon from foreign military presence. Hand Syria a mandate on Lebanese soil and you hand Hezbollah the best recruitment poster in a decade. Netanyahu's defense minister is already publicly refusing to withdraw from Lebanon "despite all existing pressures." Trump is pushing one direction. His (once) closest ally is pulling the other.
