Over the years I’ve been in many towns and cities when they were being bombed — in a few cases (Baghdad, Belgrade etc) by my own country. No matter what the justification, most of the victims have been entirely innocent. I’ve come to loathe the very thought of aerial bombardment.

In February 1960 the chairman of the Euthanasia Society (now @dignityindying), Leonard Colebrook, was taken round St Joseph’s Hospice in Hackney by the palliative care pioneer Cicely Saunders. He told her: “If everybody could have this sort of care I could disband the Society.”

@ITVNewsPolitics Farage failed to pay £400,000 in VAT in what he says was an oversight. Rayner failed to pay £40,000 stamp duty due to an oversight. Difference is, she resigned, he hasn't. Are you going to hound him like you did with Rayner @ITVNewsPolitics? Like hell you are.

Psychiatrists know that suicidal thoughts are common, particularly when people are suffering. The solution is not assisted suicide but care and compassion. Life is not a commodity. Autonomy is not the only ethical principle.

Latest on assisted dying numbers in Canada (population of approx 40m). England and Wales population is approx 60m so easy to see how the numbers may escalate should the Leadbeater Bill pass.
