APC members didn't complain when Tinubu appointed Atiku Bagudu - the person who hid Abacha's stolen money - as minister of Budget & Economic Planning. Gilbert Chagoury, Abacha's best friend, was given the biggest EVER contract in Nigerian history to build the Lagos - Calabar road. But they are foaming at the mouth of PO saying this government makes Nigeria consider Abacha as a democrat? You don't like meat but you're using your mouth to cut it? Sit down abeg

PRESS STATEMENT JOS VISIT: THE HEIGHT OF TINUBU'S INSENSITIVITY AND INHUMANITY. On Palm Sunday, 29th March 2026, more than 40 people were massacred in Plateau State, and the Presidency was silent for more than forty-eight hours. Thereafter, the Presidency and the administration had completely glossed over the carnage until Nigerians overwhelmingly condemned the President for not visiting Plateau state. Four days later, President Tinubu @officialABAT grudgingly visited Plateau State in the evening, rushed through a meeting with stakeholders and victims at the lounge of the Jos airport. The President's insensitivity and inhumanity were on full display. His impatience with the audience was glaring when he declared that the "airport does not have light" and that he had only 10 minutes before flying back to Abuja. His visit and words offered no succour to the victims. Instead, his contempt for the people was revealed. His words were not diplomatic and very far from soothing. This is not how to lead. We wholly condemn this performative and superficial show by the Presidency. It would have been better for President Tinubu to have stayed back in Abuja than to mount this disgraceful display that added salt to the injury of the victims of this massacre. The President's inability to leave the airport is clearly linked to the untamed insecurity that has overwhelmed the nation's security agencies. That the President himself fears venturing into Plateau State is a damning indication of the hopelessness into which the Tinubu APC-led administration has plunged this country. The President's announcement of 5,000 Closed-Circuit Television cameras is yet another evidence of the simplistic lens through which this administration views core security challenges. It is laughable to suggest that cameras are the panacea for the murderous insecurity ravaging Plateau State and the rest of the country. We call on the President and the Federal Government to immediately adopt a whole-of-society approach, with deliberate emphasis on community engagement, to urgently address and curb the insecurity tearing this nation apart. It didn't have to be Thursday. It took days to arrange all the individuals who were invited to the airport, so this was pre-planned. He could have gone on Wednesday, Good Friday, or anytime over the Easter weekend, with the first stop being a condolence visit to Angwan Rukuba, ideally taking part in a memorial service, followed by a meeting with other state representatives at Gov House. If he arrived early, he could have still returned to Lagos the same day.
Bayo Onanuga, OON, CON@aonanuga1956

STATEHOUSE PRESS RELEASE Why President Tinubu addressed the victims of the Plateau attacks at the airport President Tinubu's itinerary for Thursday included two main engagements: receiving the Chadian President, Mahamat Idriss Déby Itno, and proceeding to Iperu, Ogun State. After Governor Caleb Mutfwang's briefing, President Tinubu suspended the trip to Ogun. Overnight, the Presidential Villa made arrangements for the visit to Jos, with presidential assets quickly deployed. However, the President could not postpone the scheduled visit by the Chadian leader. The President of Chad was at the Presidential Villa for a very important bilateral meeting focused on strengthening security collaboration between the two countries. The meeting ran longer than expected, affecting President Tinubu’s scheduled departure for Jos. Upon arrival in Jos, the visit encountered some logistical challenges. While the road distance from the airport to Jos township is approximately 40 minutes, the runway does not support night flights due to the absence of navigational aids. The constraints made it unfeasible to drive into town, meet victims for on-the-spot assessment and return to the airport before dusk. Consequently, state and federal officials decided to bring representatives of the affected community to a hall adjoining the airport so the President could meet with them promptly while adhering to flight restrictions. Among the people in the hall were the Minister of Defence, the Chief of Army Staff and the Inspector General of Police, who had visited Rukuba, the epicentre of the conflict. President Tinubu deployed the high-level team to Rukuba, including the Senior Special Assistant on Community Engagement, to undertake critical groundwork on security and community engagement, with a view to stabilising the area before his arrival. Beyond expressing his condolences to the victims, President Tinubu’s objective was to engage with critical stakeholders in Plateau State on ending the recurring, decades-old conflict that has resulted in needless loss of lives and property. President Tinubu’s visit to Jos was not merely symbolic. It was a strategic, high-level engagement aimed at bringing all stakeholders together to address the root causes of conflict and insecurity in the state. He interacted with the victims, consoled them, and listened to them. He also listened to local leaders and assured them that the federal government would deliver justice and end the cycle of violence. He promised the deployment of 5000 AI-enabled cameras to monitor the city and enhance the identification and arrest of troublemakers. Furthermore, the President invited the community leaders to Abuja for further talks on finding a lasting solution to the recurring violence in the state. The meeting, televised live, was solemn and reassuring, boosting residents' confidence. President Tinubu achieved the purpose of his visit, despite the naysayers' attempts to ridicule it. He dropped an unmistakable message: sustainable peace must be built with the people, not imposed on them. Bayo Onanuga Special Adviser to the President (Information and Strategy) April 3, 2026

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has carefully reviewed the recent interview granted by the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Joash Amupitan, and finds it necessary to respond, in order to correct several legal and factual misrepresentations. While the Commission seeks to present its position as one anchored in law and neutrality, the substance of the Chairman’s own statements reveals a fundamental misapplication of both constitutional principles and judicial directives. First, the Chairman’s repeated assertion that INEC is merely acting within the confines of a “multi-party constitutional order” is, with respect, a deflection from the central issue. The question before Nigerians is not whether Nigeria remains a multi-party state in theory, but whether the actions of INEC in practice are undermining the ability of opposition parties to freely organize and function. The ADC has not alleged the abolition of multi-party democracy in form; rather, it has raised concerns about actions that, in effect, weaken it. The Chairman’s reliance on the existence of multiple parties as proof of neutrality does not address the specific conduct under scrutiny. On the issue of the Court of Appeal’s order, the Chairman places heavy reliance on the doctrine of status quo ante bellum, suggesting that it requires a rollback to a particular point in time and a suspension of party activities. This interpretation is both selective and legally flawed. The preservation order, by its nature, is intended to prevent actions that would irreversibly alter the subject matter of litigation, not to paralyze the internal functioning of a political party. The Chairman’s attempt to define the “status quo” by tracing the controversy to internal party developments in July 2025 is an administrative interpretation that INEC is not empowered to make. That determination lies strictly within the jurisdiction of the courts, not the Commission. Furthermore, the Chairman’s claim that holding congresses or conventions would “render proceedings nugatory” is an overreach. Internal party processes, conducted in line with the party’s constitution and the Electoral Act, do not extinguish or prejudice pending judicial proceedings. On the contrary, democratic continuity within a political party is presumed under the law unless expressly restrained by a competent court. No such explicit order prohibiting congresses or conventions has been cited. What exists are general preservation directives, which cannot be expanded into a blanket prohibition on party governance. The assertion that INEC is restrained from monitoring congresses due to an injunction equally exposes a critical misunderstanding of its role. INEC’s duty to monitor is statutory and triggered upon proper notification. A party’s decision to proceed with its internal processes does not depend on INEC’s participation. By conflating its monitoring function with the validity of the processes themselves, INEC effectively places itself above the law, assuming a veto power it does not possess. The Chairman also references conflicting communications from different factions within the ADC as justification for inaction. However, the existence of internal disputes does not suspend a political party’s constitutional rights. Indeed, such disputes are commonplace in democratic systems and are routinely resolved without administrative paralysis. INEC’s role is not to arbitrate these disputes or to freeze party activities pending their resolution, but to maintain neutrality and allow due process to run its course. 1/2

Status quo versus status quo ante bellum: An explainer to the wailing ADC I asked AI and Google to explain the meanings of the Latin terms. Here is the explanation that I got: Status quo ante bellum means "the state existing before the war". It is used in treaties and diplomacy to describe a peace settlement in which neither side gains or loses territory, power, or economic rights, effectively restoring the political and geographical conditions that existed before the conflict began. Status quo: The current state of affairs. Status quo ante or status quo ante bellum: The state of affairs prior to a specific event. For example, Russia and the United States are now trying to maintain the status quo about their nuclear arsenals. To maintain the status quo is to keep things as they are. The related phrase status quo ante, literally 'the status before', refers to the state of affairs that existed previously. In the case between Nafiu Gombe versus ADC, David Mark, and Rauf Aregbesola, 'status quo ante bellum' means reverting to the ADC as it existed before Ralph Nwoye sold the party to Abubakar Atiku to serve as an SPV for the 2027 election. According to reports, Gombe claims he is still the vice chairman of the ADC, that he never resigned, and that he ought to have become the automatic chairman following the resignation of the party's longest-serving chairman, Nwoye. The ADC should stop blaming President Tinubu, INEC for its self inflicted woes.

I was 24, a student at the University of Jos, when the first major attack struck our city. Twenty-five years later, Jos, and indeed Plateau State is still searching for lasting peace. This is not just a memory for me; it is a responsibility. One of the most important missions my team and I will ever take on is to help secure a future where Jos truly knows peace again.

Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy @bosuntijani says artificial intelligence-powered cameras will be deployed across Plateau State, starting with Jos, to improve security. He adds that similar initiatives have worked in other states to help end the crisis.

The NDC is growing rapidly, and due to its appeal, Nigerians from all walks of life across the country are rushing to join our ideological party. Today, in the company of some National Officers of the NDC, it was a pleasure to receive a team of experienced politicians from Kebbi State who are decamping from their various parties—the ADC, PDP, and the APC, to strengthen the NDC in Kebbi. I thanked them for identifying with our party and urged them, in line with NDC ideals, to build an inclusive and democratic party. I also again thank Nigerians for their confidence in the NDC and its ideology, and enjoin all Nigerians not to give up on our democracy and our nation. The NDC is the clear alternative to this ruthless, undemocratic, and oppressive government of the ruling party—the APC, and I urge all who disagree with the APC to join the NDC and channel their energies into supporting its growth so we can, together, provide credible candidates who will restore Nigeria. —HSD. Upon my return to Abuja, I was parked by a soldier on duty who asked where I was heading, and I mentioned FCT. He politely asked if could lift one of his colleagues to Abuja, and I said it was fine. When I was few meters close to Giri junction, I asked the officer his route, he was heading to Zuba while I was going through Lugbe axis to the town. I told him Zuba isn’t far. Transport is around 2-300 Naira. I asked if he was going to stop there(Zuba), or he was heading somewhere. He then told me he was going home to see for the first time after 10 months, his newly born twins. No permission was granted over the period. Sadly, he had to make the compulsory trip because his wife had called that one of the babies had died. And she urged him to come see the other twin in case he will die too. I asked him why he didn’t leave earlier than he left. He replied that he waited with the hope that salaries will be paid, since today is second, but it wasn’t, unfortunately. How then do you intend to make it, I asked him. He showed me all the money he had on him –4,500 which wasn’t even enough to get him to his destination. I could not help than give him 20k and I took his phone number, giving him my words that I will call to get information about the sick baby. I want to ask a question, please 🙏🏻 Are these the soldiers we expect to lay down their lives in our protection? You’re owing soldiers, and you want them to be effective while fighting insecurity? Sadly, this is really laughable. Allahumma bārik. BMT Ibira
