When a language course disappears, so do the chances for students to see the world differently, connect more deeply and understand life beyond our borders. It's not just a loss to academia - it's lesser experiences, quieter voices, narrower minds. Languages make lives richer.

On Saturday, we exchanged ideas about teaching German in the UK with our network of teachers and GEMs at the Netzwerktreffen ‘Making the Case for German’. Thank you to everyone who attended. We look forward to further strengthening our network! @ncle_ioe #Gimagine

Only 7,105 Germans studied at 🇬🇧 unis in 2023/24. That's down 15% on 2022 & 45% on 2019. Similarly worrying are EU numbers (-21% & -49% respectively). Erasmus & greater 🇪🇺🇬🇧 youth mobility are vital! Spending time abroad as a young person fosters invaluable ties & understanding.
