Just to be clear, I had absolutely no ill intent when I made this post. The idea came from the World Cup matchup and from associating France with Francesca and Senegal with Michaela. That’s it. I understand why some people are uncomfortable with the symbolism, and I apologize to anyone who was hurt by something I genuinely did not intend. I wasn’t trying to romanticize colonial history or make a statement about it. However, don’t put words in my mouth or assume malicious intent where there wasn’t any. You’re free to dislike the yurification or the pairing, but that’s very different from acting like I posted this to glorify colonialism. I’m not asking anyone to like it, and I’m not asking anyone to agree with me. But the post was about Franchaela and the World Cup, nothing more.
