Alam niyo bang ang daming cases ng sexual harassment/assault na hindi nabibigyan ng justice because hindi naman talaga ito napo-publicize? Kasi mostly, ang victim mismo hindi na nagsasalita at binabaon na lang sa limot dahil natatakot silang malaman ng iba kung anong nangyari sa kanila. And let’s be real, it’s really humiliating and traumatic on their end. Kaya para sa mga victims na nagkaroon ng lakas ng loob na magsalita, humingi ng tulong, or even seek justice, sobrang brave niyo. I genuinely applaud you for that. At para naman sa mga hindi pa kayang magsalita or mag-step up, naiintindihan ko rin kayo. Not everyone heals the same way, and not everyone is ready to relive their trauma in public. Your silence doesn’t invalidate your experience. I believe you deserve the same empathy, support and understanding. And my take: if your initial reaction is to ask for proof instead of directly addressing the allegations, hindi ba possible na defensive ka rin? Maybe you want to know what information is out there so you can find a way to explain it away, gaslight, or even shift the blame. Who knows? Lastly, proofs can’t always be just lying around in public, especially when we’re talking about sexual harassment. The damage is often psychological and most of the impact is carried by the victim, not the predator. Isn’t a person’s testimony and cry for help a form of evidence that deserves to be taken seriously? People don’t usually come forward with these kinds of accusations lightly. Speaking up often comes with fear and judgment. Bakit mo naman gugustuhing ilagay ang sarili mo sa ganoong sitwasyon kung wala kang pinanghahawakan? And before anyone twists my words, I’m not saying we should automatically conclude that someone is guilty without knowing all the facts. What I’m saying is that given how difficult it is for many victims to come forward, I’d rather start by taking their allegations seriously and offering support than immediately defending the accused or assuming the victim is lying. For now, I’d rather extend empathy to the person claiming they were harmed than rush to protect the person being accused. And for a person saying na, “sana nagkita tayo since we’re in the same city rn” (non-verbatim) to a woman, kahit joke pa ’yan, it can still say a lot about your behavior and how you choose to approach people. That’s it. Believe and defend him all you want. It’s on you.
