@ThePhDPlace might also want to consider if/when you want to have kids (if getting married first is important to you) bc you can often get a grant for mat leave during your program, or you’ll need to wait until you’ve been working long enough for govt benefits (depending where you live)

@howsthedespair I think it depends how much work she did in conceptualization and whether her input meets “standards” of what constitutes authorship. A lot of journals have rules/recommendations for authorship and I don’t think she would fit many! I might put her in acknowledgements..?

My supervisor told me to write a systematic review. But before I could, she threw me out of her lab. Since being thrown out, I have written the review. Do I have to list my former supervisor as an author?

@jacasiegel The more I learn about qual research, the more horrified I become about the quality of work that I see published… we need more reviewers like you!

As a reviewer, I need people to understand that qualitative research is not just vibes. You can’t just say you “did thematic analysis” and then present research based on vibes alone.

To PhD students who want a career in academia: 1 thing I'd greatly advise is pushing for some teaching at your institution. I wish I pushed harder for this. I've got all the way to interview for 2 jobs & ultimately been unsuccessful bc of zero teaching hours ... 1/2

@SaraJaaksola @ThePhDPlace @AcademicChatter I’ve always used Mendeley, but they don’t have an iPad app. Perhaps it’s time to switch to Mendeley… Great to hear that this works well for you - it would be great to avoid paying for another app!

@melkorman @ThePhDPlace @AcademicChatter I’m keeping it very simple. Zotero for all PDFs and notes written on them. For other handwritten notes, just the default notes app. For me the key is that I can access everything from the iPad, phone and laptop.
