Detroit has such awesome and well designed natural geography that also connects to the ocean and the other lakes. Why isn’t it like a second Chicago?

Well. In a sense we are already there. Transportation keeps getting worse and more expensive anyway and we can’t afford more than living in small spaces anyway and nobody is having children anyway. The age of deprivation is already here.

The new urbanism movement is all about deprivation. It’s all about living in small spaces on narrow streets, not having children and walking and bicycling everywhere. If you don’t walk or bicycle, transportation will be much more of a headache.

@huntervhoffman @misterjumpyfox There’s a huge project to revive the lake since the Browns are moving to Brookpark. After being named one of the most beautiful cities in the world Cleveland finally decided to live up to the name 😂

This coyote statue lives at a house on the corner of Fernway and Ingleside in Shaker Heights. They are always moving it around or dressing it up and it always catches me off guard every time I walk by.

I hope that beautiful land down there never gets turned into housing developments but it might. Ohio is growing. Driving to Mansfield is an hour and a half each way and it was hard doing it two weekends in a row but it was totally worth it.

The Saturday before that , June 6, we drove down there for a bonfire and some board games. We grilled hot dogs. It’s nice to be out in the country. The sunset from their backyard last Saturday the 13th was really beautiful.

Our friends in Mansfield have a nice plot of land that is surrounded by farmland. On Saturday June 13, Mindy and I drove down there to watch a movie in our friends’ backyard and we got eaten by mosquitoes. It was a lot of fun.

As I’ve gotten older, I tend to prefer to stay closer to home more, partly because I frankly don’t give a shit about what’s out there. I’ve kind of been there and done that and frankly it just doesn’t interest me.

Some people just have to be the way they are. No way can they be what they are not. The truth is though, I don’t always have to keep up with them either. They don’t have to accommodate my works, and I don’t really have to always accommodate their quirks either. 

People always told me that I should be exceptional with everything I did, but nobody ever asked me if I actually wanted to be exceptional at everything I did.

I’m wondering if our cities would do better by striving to be mediocre rather than trying to keep up with everything the next city is doing. It’s always the same shit.

Sometimes we have to just not give a shit about the world around us and sometimes that is okay.

I never thought the day would come when universities would start dying out. Well, colleges are closing down the way factories were closing when I was a kid. A lot of people don’t miss factories. I think we will miss colleges and college campuses.

It is the conscious decision to redefine success on your own terms, prioritizing inner peace and simple pleasures over the relentless, anxiety-inducing societal grind for constant achievement.

Embracing mediocrity means shedding the exhausting pressure to be exceptional at everything.

Sometimes a mediocre life is a good life, especially if it means less stress. Embrace the mediocre.

It’s okay to do the bare minimum. It really is. Don’t forget that.
