@Microsoft A followup for anyone who is interested. You have to specify the actual machine hostname in remote desktop for iOS and not the IP address. For some weird reason, an IP doesn't work when using cellular, but a hostname that resolves to the same IP will work fine.

i've encountered a specific issue with the @microsoft remote desktop for iOS not working with a VPN connection over cellular, specifically Telstra 4G. if i use WiFi of any kind it works. another iOS RDP client works fine. any ideas?
