🎙️Hello, Oscar. It's been a little bit up and down from McLaren recently. What do you take from the last few race weekends and what are your expectations here arriving in Barcelona?
OP:It’s been up and down for sure. Monaco was tough last week, though we were still able to salvage a pretty reasonable result on my side. But we clearly weren't quick enough to challenge at the front, even for the position we finished. So hopefully we can improve from that. Canada, up until Sunday, was certainly not bad. Hopefully we've learned a few things about the conditions we encountered and the corner types. I hope our struggles were a bit track-specific, but we'll find out this weekend. It’s going to be a good test on a more "normal" circuit to see where everyone stacks up.
🎙️What do you believe this year has cost you and McLaren more the out-and-out performance or the reliability?
OP:Probably both, to be honest. You can gain back the points lost from reliability issues, but you can't gain back points from a fundamental lack of performance. So both areas are costly. At the moment, with better reliability, we would be a little bit further ahead, but we still wouldn't be winning—it’s not like reliability has cost us any wins yet. We clearly need to improve the performance of the car. Hopefully, once we are in a position to do that, we can ensure we finish the races as well. Both are costly right now, but performance is definitely the bigger focus at the moment.
🎙️What is your view on the new power unit rules for 2027?
OP:I think they are a step in the right direction. Obviously, the further step in 2028 is even more of a step in the right direction. It's about as good as we can realistically make things. It hasn't been an easy process for everyone involved, but our feedback as drivers has been taken on board, which is good. For all the manufacturers, there is a lot of time and money spent on making engines for these regulations. I understand it's a complicated process, but it's a step in the right direction, which is always a good thing.

according to AMuS, ferrari believes rafa camara is ready for f1! they are pushing for him to join haas already in 2027 (alongside ollie). another journalist, christoffer linden, apparently saw rafa in ayao's office in barcelona. there's apparently pressure from toyota as well to have yuki at haas!

everyone and their mama heck even sainz defended oscar for brazil last season but this team went and said “oh it’s definitely our fault and the penalty is fair” LIKE WTF PROTECT YOUR DRIVER OMG
jas ❀@piastrisjpg
This Monaco penalty thing is a serious case of cope but also Alpine doing all this when Zak just straight up said “yeah Oscar was speeding” on broadcast is hilarious bc WHY ARE YOU NOT DEFENDING YOUR DRIVER???
English

@oscxpiastri exactly but they're doing nothing😭even zb threw in the towel during the race
English

@mustbedriver It’s just shitty because nothing can be done once the penalty has been served
English

@mustbedriver did Mercedes or Ferrari appeal their drivers' penalties?

they don't have backbone, it’s not alpine should not appeal, it's every team should appeal
Grace@gracux
Not even gasly or alpine fans but why the hell people said alpine shouldn't appeal because "it's unfair towards other teams" 😭 They don't give a f about them man

🎙️And a lot of drivers got a penalty for speeding in a pit lane. You as well. Do you have a reason or an explanation for that?
OP: I think there was something wrong with the system because I got warned that people had been caught speeding in the pit lane. So I turned the pit speed limit on whilst I was still on the track and still got a penalty. So that was strange. But yeah, I don't have anything more than that.
🎙️We have a thing here off the track, like a layout with a bit entry status panels, maybe drivers.
OP: No idea. I mean, I was still on the racing line when I hit the pit limiter coming out of raskus, so I 100% wasn't speeding.
🎙️Would you be happy if it ends up in a podium in the end?
OP: Why not?

if they win I will kill you @ZBrownCEO @McLarenF1

🚨 Alpine has won its right of review launched following the Monaco GP. FOM provided evidence that "the distance used in calculating the F1 Official Timing (and hence the pit lane speed) was inaccurate and overestimated the speed of Car 10” The hearing is happening now.
