It all started from Sputnik then Laika then Gagarin. Not sure the Soviet union foresaw the level the United States could go. 17 Apollo missions and now 21st century Artemis missions. With Space X collaborations now, Artemis will surely surpass Apollo but big respect to Apollo.

The US have the dominance now and won the lunar manned mission "race" but it is important to respect the Soviets for Sputnik, for Laika for Gagarin, for Tereshkova, for Leonov and for their robotic missions. In history, you show great respect to pioneers.
