@RogerDodger1000 @pedrojuk @SW_LTN_Truth @LoyTera Traffic is not a fixed volume, but elastic in demand. Guess what kind of measures reduces driving trips? LCR has been busy for the past 25 years that I've lived here. Only radical, transformative change provides options for a better future. Be part of that.

Been sent this Liveable Wells infographic. Interesting. I wonder if everybody still feels the same now 🤔. I’m sure some of these people are seeing more traffic than ever before #Streatham #LTN #Lambeth

We can all do our bit to call out dangerous driving and make it clear it's not welcome in our communities. I'm really grateful to Birmingham's @GreenLaneMasjid for producing this hard-hitting film on road safety. One mistake behind the wheel can change lives forever.

@chilternrailway Hello, been travelling on your London to Birmingham service over the past few weeks and every time there's something wrong with the on train toilet, e.g. no water to wash hands, no flush, no soap, blocked, etc. There clearly needs to be an improvement in the maintenance regime.

Accessible toilets are available in our trains, next to the wheelchair spaces marked with yellow strips and signage on the train doors. All staffed Chiltern Railways stations have accessible toilets.

Sad news. This is exactly the kind of small business Streatham needs to make it a thriving local area. What do other countries do to help local businesses? How can overheads for small businesses be controlled or made more favourable?
Liveable Streatham Wells@LiveableWells

Really sad to hear that Wholemeal Cafe on Shrubbery Rd is closing its doors after 45 years. Greedy landlords yet again turning the screw on the independent businesses that make a place a place.

Hmm maybe this Elon Musk chap is cleverer than I thought, judging by my Twitter feed. Mr @bricycle gets an honourable mention.

@RebeccaSolnit One thing that struck me about gun deaths in the US was how many of them are apparently suicides. The inalienable right to buy a gun for the inalienable right to end your own life. Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

@philiploy @streathamaction @heartstreatham I live in Streatham and have done for 26 years, there's not much in the High Road to tempt me up there very often. Once Streatham Wells LTN is live traffic will be even worse and therefore even less attractive

Tooting High St: Interesting to ponder why it's a much more vibrant high street than #Streatham. Why? Having 2 indoor markets? Northern line enabling higher income households to live nearby? Contribution of diverse migrant community? Answers on a postcard...

@vikki_alley Anchor stores, well I'm sure it plays a part - no doubt you're aware of the Streatham folklore about 'Pratts'. You think Streatham is neglected by the council? Maybe. I applaud all the local efforts, eg @streathamaction and @heartstreatham even if not agreeing on all points.

@philiploy Streatham has no anchor stores, I'm sure the Primark in Tooting increases footfall, it's always busy in there. Maybe different councils play a part too, Lambeth treats Streatham as the poor relation to Brixton

@BeeKemiA @jwmurphy @rd_npse Ah yes the 15-minute town! I suspect that is key to what makes a thriving local community and neighbourhood. And this of course has all the transport implications that seems to agitate so many people.

@jwmurphy @philiploy @rd_npse Maybe the massive hospital and tonnes of independent shops owned by people who live/lived nearby contribute to this too. We have a lot of primary schools and a range of religious centres just off the high street. It’s almost a 15 min town.

Interested in the answered to this. Am currently doing some thinking about Kilburn High Road. It reminds me of Streatham - dominance of major road and pedestrians have a hard time. Also not so many evening out destinations as suggested by one of replies

@kamiterru_ Ok you may have something there, others have said something similar, i.e. Streatham has no 'natural' place such as a town square or piazza. It does have nice pizza places though.

@kamiterru_ Yes it is. Same is true for Streatham High Road as you get further south.

@ArchwayStreets Apparently considered in the 1980s but not taken forward due to 'costs'. Oh yes if it's going free, sure! Trouble is, does this 'skew' the transport network in favour of where the money is instead of serving needs of Londoners who live and work here?

@philiploy Was this ever planned? Given the Battersea extension was ‘free’ (loan repaid by s106) then that extension isn’t so bad…

@kamiterru_ Hmm, I'd regard the Tooting 'high street' being effectively from Balham. Makes it longer than the supposed 'longest high street in Europe' tag that I've heard of Streatham which I suspect is a confusion because of the name 'Streatham High Road'.

@angusjfrench @StreathamLTN Either way, I'd suggest the multi-lane dual carriageway configuration is a waste of precious public space, does nothing for traffic flow except encourage dangerous speeding, and detracts from the ambience of Streatham as a 'place'.

@StreathamLTN @philiploy I'm not counting lanes which are used for parking. There's remarkably little traffic in your pictures. If anyone's interested and not sure, I'd invite them to travel down the High Rd using the Street View option of Google Maps.

@Kurako76 Sure, but I'm wondering how large the 'catchment area' is for any given high street/ town centre to make it viable. Yes, big box = 'nice' but sterile/ anodyne retail environments like out-of-town shopping centres.
