Hot take: econ papers are simply trying to do much harder, much more sophisticated things than poli-sci papers. Likely true even if you restrict attention to reduced-form empirical work, but especially if you include quantitative structural work (IO, macro).

@StevenxTCG Maybe they are just directing their anger at flippers and not at people who have flexible jobs. Then that’s jobless behavior. Or, a criticism of that specific type of job - flipping.

Kinda tired of people calling others waiting in line “jobless behavior”. The entire world does not run on a 9-5 schedule. Jobs are more flexible than ever. Millions of people work retail jobs, restaurant jobs, overnight shifts, non traditional hours. I had a 9-5 job for the past 10 years (I mainly freelance now) and I could literally go into work and leave whenever I wanted because I was trusted to do my job (and then I was in charge) If you’re upset that you’re stuck at work and calling everyone else who has free time “jobless”, maybe to need to find a job that fits your lifestyle better 🤷‍♂️

@profTLe More work/studying shifts student priorities from attendance to getting assignments/midterms in. Limited energy means trade-offs.

I know correlation is not causation but has anyone noticed that class attendance drops a week before spring break? Think it’s because flowers bloom during this time and allergies kick in? And students are more likely to be sensitive to the environment because of microplastics?

People can say Ohtani is better, that’s fine. But.. Ohtani hit .105 in 24 WS and still won. He didn’t play last WBC game and won. 0-3 the game before and won. 7.56 ERA in the ‘25 WS and won. Was hitting .157 in ‘25 playoffs, and was still 8-1 up 3-0 in NLCS before he showed up.
