Because Trump’s tax cuts weren’t meant to help working families—they were meant to reward the ultra-wealthy.

The Iran war could end up costing U.S. taxpayers far more than official figures suggest, according to the analysis of one Harvard academic. While a fragile ceasefire is still in place, efforts to reach a lasting settlement have so far proved elusive, with U.S. forces starting a blockade of Iranian ports on Monday after peace talks over the weekend failed. “I am certain we will reach $1 trillion for the Iran war,” said Professor Linda Bilmes, public policy expert at the Harvard Kennedy School, in an internal interview. FIFA is set to reap nearly $11 billion from this summer's World Cup, yet New York area commuters and residents are being handed the bill.   The least FIFA can do is ensure New York residents can go to the stadium without being gouged at the turnstile. I am demanding FIFA step up and cover transportation costs for host cities and states. New York commuters and residents should not subsidize an $11 billion windfall.

It is still strange to ascribe any deeper meaning to an election in a European country with a population of less than 10 million people, writes political columnist Ross Barkan. The political fate of Hungary should matter no more to the United States than that of Switzerland or Bulgaria. But we live under the yoke of MAGA, and far-right politicians have been obsessed with Viktor Orbán since he rose to power 16 years ago. Orbán was a lodestar for members of the American far right. Despite governing a very different country, he spoke their language: He was fiercely anti-immigrant and anti-gay, a proponent of Christian nationalism and an enemy of modern cosmopolitanism. In his various attacks on his nation’s democracy — his takeovers of local media outlets, his warping of the judiciary — he resembled Trump, or what Trump could be if he were allowed to govern with even fewer checks and balances. Now he is gone, easily swatted away by an opposition candidate, Péter Magyar, who led the newly assembled Tisza party. Tisza will have a huge majority in parliament, and Magyar will enjoy a mandate to govern as a true anti-Orbán prime minister. What will all this actually mean for Trump and his MAGA movement?
