Here is the smoking gun that the Iran negotiations are a farce. Think about this. Russia and Ukraine have been at war for four years. The only time Russia’s foreign minister met with his Ukrainian counterpart was on March 10, just before the Istanbul deal was sabotaged by Britain. Since then, there have been no meetings. Why? Because meetings at that level do not happen unless 90% of the real work has already been done behind the scenes. Now look at Iran’s situation. We are only weeks removed from half of their leadership being killed and from an extremely high intensity war. Yet suddenly, after existential threats were being thrown around, the vice president of one of the warring parties is meeting with Iran’s top leadership? What?! Doesn't that seem off? No framework. No serious plan. Just talking points and a publicity stunt. There is a reason serious diplomacy does not begin with top level meetings. You do not start with the principals. You start with the groundwork. It is the same reason you do the prep work before building a house, otherwise the house won't stand. High ranking meetings come at the end, not the beginning. Because if they fail, everything fails with them. This meeting was the worst thing that could have happened. Instead of sending a real team of seasoned diplomats, the U.S. sent a goon squad to try to intimidate Iran, and they are going to run the same play again. Trying to get a durable agreement under these conditions, without meticulous planning, without sequencing, without real prework, is not diplomacy. There is only one purpose of the talks and its to buy time for the rerun which will be much worse. Dangerous times lie ahead.
