A Tribute to Will Swingler from Club Secretary, Phil Cross

We are deeply saddened to share the news that Will Swingler passed away yesterday at the age of 80. Will was devoted to Rothwell Cricket Club not only during his playing days but also as club treasurer over the past sixty years. Club Chairman, James Swingler shares his tribute.

A win against Brixworth Seconds on the last weekend of the season secured Rothwell’s first team fifth place in the division. Dean Spreadbury top scored with 48 runs and Marc Jackson scoring 45 both also took 4 wickets.

Final game of the season tomorrow. Rothwell’s first team play away to Brixworth Seconds starting at 11am. Thanks to everyone who has supported the teams this summer, hoping to finish the season with a win, good luck to the team!

Congratulations to Hassan Farhat for his inclusion on this week’s honours board following his 5 wicket haul in Rothwell’s win against Oundle seconds last weekend.

A win for Rothwell’s first team yesterday at home. Bowling Oundle out for 66 runs, Hassan Farhat took 5 wickets for 5 runs off 4.3 overs. Opening batsmen Marc Jackson, 29 runs and Bruce Jaftha 34 runs reached the total in 7.5 overs.

Congratulations to Dean Spreadbury for his inclusion on the Northants honours board this week, taking 5 wickets at the weekend in Rothwell’s game against Stony Stratford.

Something different at the club this weekend a Harley Davidson meet. Bands and plenty of beer!! Thank you to our players, Gary Freeman, Jordan Bell-henshaw and Freddie Voss and our youth parents, Heather Wilson and Pip Britten for all their help, it is much appreciated.

This year marks the 125th anniversary of Rothwell Town Cricket Club playing at our Desborough Road ground. Many events have taken place here over the years, including this party to celebrate VJ Day 80 years ago. This photograph is taken outside of the original pavilion.

With eight games remaining this season, Rothwell’s first team travel to Barby Cricket Club today and start at 11am. Rothwell seconds play at home against Carrib United CC starting at 12pm. Our thanks to sponsors Sublime Asset Management for their support this year.

First game played on our new artificial wicket last night. A mixed Under 11’s/13’s team played Old in a friendly match, Rothwell winning by 54 runs. Today we begin our summer cricket sessions at 10am. Spaces available for next week. Please get in touch if interested.
