Pertamax, the country's most popular fuel, rose from 12,300 to 16,250 rupiah per liter (+32%) on June 10, with subsidized Pertalite up 30% as well. Crowds have filled the streets of Jakarta, with motorcycle taxi drivers and students out in force. Fuel hikes have brought down governments here before. The 1998 price riots ended Suharto's 31-year rule.
