Unfiltered@quotesdaily100

How the world's greatest cities became unforgettable: 1. Paris makes you fall in love 2. Tokyo makes you feel the future 3. New York makes you feel alive 4. Istanbul makes you question time 5. Beirut breaks your heart and fixes it the same night 10. Kyoto makes you slow down 11. Lagos makes you believe in energy 12. Rome makes you feel small in the best way 13. Edinburgh makes you believe in ghosts and you are not even superstitious 27. Tbilisi makes you wonder why nobody told you sooner 28. Cartagena makes you feel like the heat itself has a personality 29. Medellín shows you that a city can completely rewrite its own story 30. Kolkata makes you confront beauty and struggle sharing the same square meter 33. Bruges makes you feel like time forgot to move and you are grateful 34. Amman makes you feel welcomed before you have spoken a word 35. Jakarta makes you understand twenty million people sharing the same urgency 36. Tallinn makes you feel like the medieval world never fully let go 37. Bogotá surprises you so completely you feel embarrassed for your assumptions 38. Chiang Mai makes you breathe slower without anyone telling you to 39. Porto makes you realize faded beauty is still beauty, maybe more so 40. Dakar makes you feel the ocean and the continent pulling equally 41. Reykjavik makes you feel the earth is still being made beneath your feet 42. Jerusalem makes you feel the impossible weight of what people believe 43. Hanoi moves at full speed and still feels intimate 44. Thessaloniki makes you wonder why its neighbor gets all the attention 45. Sarajevo makes you sit quietly long after you leave 46. this is why i only trust singaporean reviews of hotels because they know what’s important: wifi strength, AC temperature and number of towels provided

the insane self-insert / “i can’t read anymore because the author said 1 thing i disagree with” discourse about reading makes me think of this lin yu tang quote - how true it is that these people are imprisoned in their immediate world. and they don’t know how to step out of it

the best thing about that “no mountains in china” claim is that this map was posted as a response - and it is endlessly fascinating!! look at the little green circle of sichuan surrounded by mountains! the vast plains of the north! the peaks in the west! what a country

my god, just read whatever you want to. you don’t need to know anything about the author. if it’s so important to you, then read the classics where the authors aren’t on social media coz they dead
ᥫ𝒎𝒆𝒍᭡@motsdemaelys

honestly i'm this close to quitting reading for good. every single author i actually love turns out to be problematic or worse. i'm so tired of finding out after i already got attached. feels like i can't enjoy anything anymore without a background check first

“i can’t visit places like china bc it’ll mean i have to accumulate thousands in the bank and quit and go there for a year” but you could just go there for 2 weeks? i live just as far from the US and have managed to visit on a 2-week break without quitting my job

or like “i refuse to eat out or travel or even watch a movie because i’m in extreme saving mode to retire at 35 with millions in investments” why can’t you enjoy some pleasures, live a more moderate life and retire at 50 instead?

this is a genuine qn and i’m sure it’s skewed due to social media but why do so many US folks sound so extreme in their life choices? like “i quit my job and sold my house, travelled for 2 years and had $5 left” why can’t you travel more moderately over a longer period of time?
