Use NOT: tradition, nor perceived loopholes, nor even the law itself, to undermine the spirit of the law. Love God totally and be a neighbor!

This is in the police bus that hauled us off when we were arrested. We sang. And laughed. And refused to let the weariness and violence overwhelm us. Joy is an act of resistance. [With handcuffs on, I managed to get my phone out of my pocket and record this little video inside the bus. My pal Ben Cohen (co-founder of Ben & Jerry’s) was also arrested, and was pretty impressed by my Houdini-style maneuver.] Keep singing. Keep laughing. Keep shining in the darkness. Death will not have the final word. Love wins.

“The cross doesn’t justify violence—it ends it.” This week we’re reflecting on Holy Week. In the final days of Jesus’ life, we witness betrayal, injustice, violence, and death. And yet, at the center of it all, we see something radically different: a God who refuses to meet violence with more violence. Instead of retaliation, Jesus embodies love. Instead of power over, Jesus shows us power through self-giving sacrifice. Scripture reveals that the cross is not about reinforcing systems of harm—but about undoing them. It is where love triumphs over empire, and where God’s peace breaks into a violent world. Through 40 Days 40 Ways, Shane Claiborne and Lisa Sharon Harper guide us through Lent with daily reflections and invitations to ACT, rooted in the Jesus Way. What would it look like to follow the nonviolent way of Jesus in our world today? ✝️ Join us. 🔗 Link in bio | RedLetterChristians.org/40Days40Ways #lent #faith #40days40ways #JesusAndJustice

When Pope St. John Paul II warned against going to war in Iraq, I thought he was being naïve. And he did sometimes say things that were too close to pacifism. But his concern about the effects on civilian populations was prophetic. Overall, he was right and I was wrong.

“People are becoming more aware of the amount of money that ends up in the pockets of merchants of death. With that money, hospitals and schools could be built. Instead, those already built are being destroyed.”

A little thought for Palm Sunday... Think about the donkey that rode Jesus into Jerusalem that first Palm Sunday. People were lining the streets to see him. Shouting "Hosanna!" Waving their palm branches. That donkey might have started to think he was the star of the show. But the donkey had to learn the same thing we all have to learn. The glory is not ours. We're just the asses that get to carry Jesus.

I am troubled by Trump. But I’m even more troubled by the Christians who defend him. Every time I hear @Franklin_Graham support Trump, I think of the words of his dad: “I don’t want to see religious bigotry in any form… It would disturb me if there was a wedding between the religious fundamentalists and the political right. The hard right has no interest in religion except to manipulate it.” – Billy Graham Follow Jesus. Not Trump.

@eugmcg @Dede_Watson @mtracey But repent would mean to turn around and go the other way. They think crying Lord, Lord gets them into the Kingdom. 😕😞

@JohnFugelsang @MuellerSheWrote I say this wholeheartedly as Jew. Netanyahu is a Nazi. His administration uses the same excuse in killing children, as Hitler did. As a Jew who studied Nazis, it pains me to see Israel behave as atrociously as any Nazi in 1930s Germany.

Day 29 Week 5 Creation Care 📣 “The earth is not disposable—it’s God’s masterpiece.” Welcome to Week 5 of 40 Days, 40 Ways. This week, Shane and Lisa invite us to reflect on creation care and what it means to live faithfully in relationship with the earth. In Genesis, when God creates the world, God calls it very good. Not just the trees, oceans, and animals individually—but the relationships between all of creation. The harmony between people, land, waters, and creatures is part of God’s good design. Yet some versions of Christianity have taught that the earth doesn’t matter—that it will all burn anyway. But Scripture tells a different story. God is the artist, and creation is God’s masterpiece. We are called to steward it, not abandon it. Our faith isn’t just about escaping the world someday. It’s about seeking God’s kingdom on earth as it is in heaven. 👉 Today’s invitation to ACT: Try a small creation-care practice this week. Consider reducing electricity use after sunset, spending time unplugged, or choosing one habit that lightens your footprint on the earth. Go fuel free for a week—bike, carpoool or walk Tune in today and every day of Lent to hear Shane and Lisa invite us to rediscover the Gospel as a way of life—with a daily invitation to ACT, rooted in the Jesus Way.
