Under massive pressure from farmers, truck drivers and protesters, they have cut excise duty on diesel and petrol by 10c per litre and delayed planned carbon tax hikes.
This is after weeks of protests that blocked fuel depots, ports and Ireland’s only oil refinery.
The farmers were right: “No farmers, no food.”
The government only moved when the country started grinding to a halt.
A small win for the Irish people, but it shows how weak the establishment really is when ordinary citizens stand up.
