މި ބިލު އޮތްގޮތަށް ތަސްދީގުކުރުމާމެދު ފެންނަ ގޮތަކީ ކޮބައިތޯ ބެލުމާއި، ގާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 262 ވަނަ މާއްދާގެ (ށ) ގެ ދަށުން ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހުގެ މުއްދަތު ބަދަލުކުރަން ރައްޔިތުން ރުހޭތޯ ބެލުމާ އެއީ މުޅިން ވަކި ދެ ކަމެކެވެ. މިހާރު ހިނގަމުންދާ ރައްޔިތުންގެ މަޖިލީހުގެ ދައުރު ކުރުކޮށްލާކަން ރައްޔިތުންނަށް ވަންހަނާވާ ގޮތަށް މިހާރު ފަރުމާކޮށްފައިވާ ސުވާލަކީ ގާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 262 ވަނަ މާއްދާގެ އިމުގެ ތެރެއިން ފަރުމާކުރެވިފައިވާ ސުވާލެއް ނޫނެވެ. ސަބަބަކީ އެ ބިލުގައި ގާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 262 ވަނަ މާއްދާގެ ދަށުން ރައްޔިތުންކުރެން އަހަން ނުޖެހޭ އެތައް ކަމެއް ހިމެނިފައިވާއިރު، ރައްޔިތުން ކުރެން އަހަން ނުޖެހޭ ކަންތައްތަކެއް ގާނޫނުއަސާސީގެ 262 ވަނަ މާއްދާގެ ދަށުން ރެފަރެންޑަމެއްގައި ނުއެހެނޭނެތީވެއެވެ. އަދި ރައްޔިތުންކުރެން އަހަނީ ކޮން ސުވާލެއްކަން ނޭނެގޭ ގޮތަށް އެ ސުވާލު ލިޔެފައިވާތީވެއެވެ. އެހެންކަމުން ގާނޫނުއަސާސީ ލާޒިމުކުރާ ގޮތަށް ނޫންގޮތަކަށް ސުވާލުކޮށްގެން ނެގޭ ވޯޓެއްގެ ސައްހަކަމެއް އޮވެދާނެ ކަމަށް ނުފެނެއެވެ.

The mosque, originally named Bunbaa Miskiiy and now known as Bandaara Miskiiy (officially Masjid Al-Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen), is a historic Shiite mosque built in 1927 during the reign of Sultan Mohamed Shamsuddeen III. It was constructed by Dawoodi Bohra merchants who settled in Malé with government permission starting in 1857.
As it approaches its 100th anniversary, this mosque holds immense historical significance. It served the Bohra community for about 35 years until their business permits were canceled in 1962, leading to their departure and leaving the mosque unoccupied. It was then adapted for local use, renamed Bandaara Miskiiy, and opened to the public on January 12, 1967, with Jumah prayers beginning on December 7, 1968. It has functioned as a Sunni mosque for 58 years.
This site represents a unique and special chapter in Maldivian history, reflecting the multicultural influences and trade connections that have shaped our islands.
Yet, the Islamic Minister has announced plans to demolish this historic mosque to build a larger one, despite a massive 5,000+ capacity Islamic Center just a 2-minute walk away, plus several other mosques in the vicinity.
Demolishing Bandaara Miskiiy would be a grave mistake. It violates the spirit of heritage preservation law, which protect our cultural and historical sites. This mosque is not just a place of worship; it is irreplaceable cultural heritage tied to our nation's diverse past.
