EthCC takeaways #69420 - Beras In Control Not gonna yap about overall crypto trends. This one is for the beras. EthCC was the most exciting event to date for the Berachain community, because we really got to see the results of the network effects that have been percolating for the last couple of years. There were 7 absolutely packed events happening in the Berachain community (that I know of) last week. The core team only helped organize 2 of them - Beracademy and ZuCastle (but this one was all @alyriadefi @0xRodney and friends). Everything else was an organic byproduct of the community. I got to hear stories about @BeraMVP breaking ankles at hoops with @calitoshi_nct and the Nocturnal gang, saw @puffpaw @ramen_finance and @Beramonium drawing a huge eco crowd (including the homies @LucaNetz and @0xChar) to stare at the magic vape, danced till 4am to some breakcore & DnB with @babyberafinance, @lordpemby, the @berabaddie gang and @defidave (still looking for his future wife), and then made a fool of myself at reggaeton / latin sounds night with @shogunfi, while the baddies pre'd with a PoL-heavy brunch. I was chatting with @jackmelnick_ and @homme0x about this at one point during the conference - I truly believe that Berachain is a one-time, lightning in a bottle type event. I don't think that Papa and I could recreate this sequence of events if we wanted to, and I wouldn't have it any other way. This comes from a number of factors. We're fortunate to be armed with a killer ecosystem team who puts in the work to ensure that no builder is left behind, and anyone who wants to learn more or build on Berachain is armed with the resources to do so. And the core team is bolstered by a growing army of community evangelists, this social validator network that helps bring more and more folks to Berachain - from the Discord OGs of 2021/22 to incredibly enthusiastic teams who have joined the eco recently and rep it to no end. We've been blessed with a uniquely positive, very ridiculous and silly yet brilliant community, fueled by what I called a Culture of Retarded Excellence. They're friendly, welcoming, and most of all, they really do care. I think that's been the biggest realization for me - maybe it's just cope, and everything goes away the moment a token goes live if the market doesn't like us (a very possible outcome, to be clear). But I also had the pleasure of speaking with @zxocw about how "trauma-bonding" builds resilient communities, especially within crypto. Bitcoin had Mt. Gox. Ethereum had the DAO Hack. Solana had FTX. We've had...not launching for 2 years - the talking heads on Twitter love this one. And honestly, it's fair criticism. And even though Berachain has been not real for much longer than intended, I believe (or happily cope) that we're stronger than ever as a result of it. I don't believe that any other pre-launch ecosystem in existence (or in history) has had such a deep and expansive application ecosystem to serve users when we go live - and I think it actually outclasses a number of live chains' as well. Beyond this, I'd rather have a community of thousands of die-hard zealots who waited years for something massive, and live and breathe Berachain, than hundreds of thousands of Discord grinders and airdrop farmers and people completing spicy quests in hopes of farming alpha. Because I know that each and every one of those zealots and builders who've waited for Berachain instead of hopping to the next trend will put way more genuine effort into spreading the good word, growing the culture and ethos that's been built, and helping to attract like-minded people who can cause these effects to compound in a manner that can sustain for years to come. The toughest thing in crypto (beyond distribution) is finding a way to make people give a f**k. I'm probably a hopeless optimist, but I believe that from the ecosystem events, and the people I met in the broader Berachain orbit, I saw many a f**k given. I'm incredibly excited to see how the ecosystem continues to excel over the months to come, and how the community grows alongside it as we head into mainnet this year. Believe in something. Believe in the Beras. Ooga booga.
