The only AI agent stack you need to get started 1. Hermes If you want an agent running today without building everything from scratch. It gives you memory, workflows, integrations and making it easy to get started quickly. Just make sure you understand the basics before deploying agents to production. 2. Vercel AI SDK + Next.js If you're building your own AI product, this is my favorite setup. The Vercel AI SDK removes most of the boilerplate and makes it easy to switch between OpenAI, Claude, Gemini and other providers without rewriting your code. Pair it with Next.js and you've got frontend, backend, streaming, auth, and deployment in one place. 3. OpenAI or Claude for the models, both are excellent. use smaller models for cost efficiency and larger models when you need stronger reasoning and longer context. most people spend too much time worrying about the model and not enough time improving prompts, tools and workflows. 4. MCPs and Skills these are what allow your agent to interact with the outside world. Some great ones to start with: • supabase → database access • gmail → send and read emails • stripe → payments • postHog → analytics • context7 → up-to-date documentation • valyu → web search and research You don't need all of them on day one. Start with what your project actually needs. 5. Cursor or Claude Code these tools dramatically speed up development. you can describe what you want, iterate quickly and spend more time building features instead of writing repetitive code. My recommended stack: • Hermes - agent framework • OpenAI / Claude - models • MCPs / Skills - integrations • valyu - search • cursor / Claude Code - development • Vercel AI SDK + Next.js - custom products

a senior data engineer got laid off during a restructuring. quiet guy. never complained. rarely joined office politics. two weeks later the CEO dashboard started showing different revenue numbers every day. turns out he was correcting broken source data before every executive meeting. nobody knew. the most important pipelines are often held together by invisible work.

You don't need a co-founder. You need: - one person who builds - one person who posts - one person who sells If that's all the same person, congrats, you're the startup.
