The funniest thing that Hoyo has done after 5 years of fandom staunchly believing that Zhongli didn't have any doppelgangers like other archons is to just drop the bombshell buried in Zibai's character story that not only does he in fact have doppelgangers, he has three of them

the writers are not trying to justify the villain's actions. they are EXPLAINING how the villain got to this point in their life. so many people in life end up being awful BECAUSE they went through horrible experiences or get exposed to harmful beliefs and it rots their mind.
