Cronos News – Update Note
I want to share a few changes happening with Cronos News and explain the reasoning behind my decisions.
I've been running Cronos News since early 2024. Until recently the collection was automated via the X API, which cost me $240 per month - just to produce the weekly summaries.
Occasional sponsors helped a little, but they never came close to covering the real costs.
I was very close to shutting everything down… until X fortunately introduced a pay-as-you-go API model. Now I only pay for the API calls I actually make.
Still - without any stable sponsorship - I have to be much more careful with both money and time (especially after the recent transformation on cronos ).
Two major changes coming in the short term
1. Winding down coverage – much stricter curation
- My current database has ~150 projects.
- Roughly half are already inactive, rugged, or barely alive → these will be deactivated soon.
- Projects that rarely produce meaningful updates or real progress (especially most memes) will also be removed.
- Many projects have a “newsworthy ratio” below 5% (i.e. maybe 1 informative post out of every 20). I can no longer afford to collect & filter all of them.
2. Adding new projects will be significantly stricter
There’s always a meta on Cronos (tax tokens right, treasuries, meme coins a year ago…).
This leads to waves of near-identical “copy-paste” projects claiming they are “unique”.
I’m not going to debate uniqueness. If a project is just riding the current meta without meaningful differentiation, I will not add it immediately.
I’ll wait and see whether you actually build something real.
A few important things to understand
- Cronos News was never designed to be a free Kickstarter / promotional page to get your project known. That’s your job - reach out to the community yourself.
- It is not a gateway to the CroFam.
- The primary goal is to deliver useful alpha and information to the readers / community - not to serve builders (even though it can indirectly help them).
- No project is entitled to be included.
- Cronos News is not decentralized - I make the decisions based on what I believe provides real value (and what doesn’t).
- I’m not going to argue about inclusions/exclusions, and I’m not responsible for hurt feelings. This is a hobby I do in my free time, on my own terms.

6 months ago, i sounded the alarm on @gemini, saying the stock would hit single digits. back then, the stock was trading at $25. today, $GEMI is down over 80% and trading at under $5. now, i'm predicting it goes bankrupt before year end. Honestly, I am actually very happy, because this proves that the Manecity team not just managed to design a blueprint for sustainable model for a Web3 game which is definitely not an easy task, but it shows that there is longevity in the project.

As part of this step, we have also made a targeted ~12% workforce reduction of roles that do not adapt in our new world.
