We are deeply saddened by the tragic events that have impacted the tight-knit community of Tumbler Ridge, British Columbia. This is an incredibly painful moment for students, families, educators and first responders, and our thoughts are with the victims and all those affected. We extend our sincere appreciation to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police and all first responders for their swift response and ongoing efforts during this difficult time. As the community begins the difficult path toward healing, police leaders across British Columbia stand in solidarity with the community during this profoundly difficult time. #BCRCMP #TumblerRidgeSecondarySchool #RCMPNorthDistrict

This marks an important step toward a more coordinated, province-wide approach. The goal: safer interactions, informed decision-making, and more efficient transitions to care. Mental health and substance-use crises are health issues, but they can quickly become public safety emergencies. That’s why we’re working in partnership with police, health-care providers, and community partners to expand HealthIM on South Vancouver Island. HealthIM is an evidence-based tool that helps police and clinicians share information in real time, supporting safer, more compassionate responses when someone is in crisis. Public safety and public health go hand in hand.
