I’m thrilled to share this incredible news. Clark Hung and I are leading an @ARPA_H funded team of multidisciplinary researchers from @ColumbiaBME @OrthoColumbia @ColumbiaUDental & Univ of Missouri to engineer a living knee replacement @ORSsociety @thehunglab

A research team led by @ColumbiaBME @thehunglab and @NadeenChahine has been awarded nearly a $39 million contract from the Advanced Research Projects Agency for Health (@ARPA_H) to build living knee replacements from biomaterials and human stem cells, including a patient’s own cells. In collaboration with @ColumbiaMed, the award will support more than two decades of collaborative musculoskeletal research at Columbia, providing a transformative solution for millions of people in the U.S. suffering from osteoarthritis. 📣Congratulations! DARPA has awarded a $12 million grant to a multi-institutional team led by @ColumbiaBME Prof. Paul Sajda to advance critical research in major depressive disorder and suicide. This grant is one of three projects funded by the DARPA STRENGTHEN program, which aims to build on recent advances in neuroscience to prevent or mitigate the effects of traumatic stress that leads to behavioral disorders and suicidality.
@BMEChairCU’s team is developing brain stimulation techniques to treat cases of treatment-resistant depression by promoting cognitive flexibility and emotional regulation.
