If you removed the price chart… would your favorite crypto project still make sense? A lot of teams say they have “utility.” But when you look closely, the token is the product. Stake it. Farm it. Burn it. Vote with it. And somehow that’s called utility. Here’s the problem: If the only reason people hold a token is because they expect it to go up, that’s not utility. That’s anticipation. Fake utility usually looks like this: • Rewards funded only by emissions • Staking that produces more of the same token • Governance with no meaningful power • “Use cases” that only exist inside the token loop It’s circular. It feeds itself. Real utility is different. • The token unlocks access to something functional • It coordinates real economic activity • Demand exists beyond speculation • Users would still engage even in a sideways market In other words: If speculation disappeared tomorrow, the system would still run. As crypto matures with ETFs, institutions, AI, and real-world asset tokenization entering the picture this distinction becomes critical. The next cycle won’t reward noise.
