Few things in baseball are more overrated than first basemen striding forward. It gains very little time and crushes your catch radius. Experienced first basemen know this (and learned it pretty young). It's far more important to stay back and maintain a bigger catch radius, this would have been a routine out. Only stride forward/stretch on long throws you know are on-target.

"Catch the fucking ball." Matt Chapman to Casey Schmitt after Schmitt couldn't come up with the ball on this throw to first base

Nightmare scenario for CBS as both Elite 8 games are blowouts. Tough to see a large national audience hang out for the second half of a Duke beatdown.

The Marlins going back to teal today is just a reminder of the level of calamity it has been to take the most successful era in franchise history, an identifiable and slick look, and toss it in the garbage for inferior, generic uniforms.

Game of the year in basketball. Duke choked, but let me be clear: the referees 100% let UConn back in the game with phantom foul calls when Duke was up 10+

@michaelFhurley The ABS obviously works. Just let it call balls and strikes and the umpire can watch. Tennis style.

I feel like we are days away from home plate umpires simply refusing to acknowledge ABS challenges. They’ve never been held to account in front of a small group of calm reporters, let alone 40,000 rabid fans. There’s no way they can handle this.

Absolutely electric lmao CB Buckner noticeably annoyed when he tapped the 2nd time only to be wrong again and listen to 40,000 people cheer for his incompetence 😂

Imagine if from 7-10AM Chipotle made the world’s best breakfast burritos… Start in a few exclusive stores, make it go viral, then scale nationally. Seems like it’s a huge opportunity right in front of them.

@flowsdoc I messed up my elbow at 11 throwing curveballs during a practice. Was snapping them real good, then it just hurt. Never got it looked at. Just didn’t play the field for a few months and slowly worked back. Arm was never 100% the same. So no. Teach them a change up instead.

Should kids throw curveballs? Or are we asking the WRONG question? I just evaluated a 12-year-old with a UCL tear… who couldn’t even do a simple get up from the ground. And we’re debating pitch types? This isn’t a curveball problem. This is a youth development problem. Kids are: ⚾️ Playing 90+ games a year ⚾️ Throwing max intent before they can move ⚾️ Training like mini-pros ⚾️ Skipping athletic development ⚾️ Living in velocity culture And then we’re shocked when their elbows explode. So I’ll ask again: 👉 Is the curveball the villain? Or are we breaking kids before they ever get the chance to grow?

It’s absolutely ridiculous that we have 25-year-old “students” who graduated 3 years ago still playing college football. My bill is simple: you get 5 consecutive years to play 5 seasons. After that, you’re done. No more of this “COVID free year of eligibility” crap.

Reuben Bain final pre-draft eval: He is probably light-years ahead as the most explosive athlete in this year’s draft class at any position. He’s got rare bend ability with great shin angles that allow him to get his body into positions that 90% of rushers can’t. His aggressiveness off the ball is his best gift, but if not careful it can be a curse at the next level. Do I think Reuben Bain is a good player? Without a doubt. I also believe Miami’s attack-style defense of creating havoc going forward allowed Reuben to hide some of his deficiencies. The arm issue isn’t a problem in the pass game. It’s the run game. Sometimes he gets buried too much in OL pads in the run game with delayed separation. This is the arm issue that causes him to not play long sometimes. If Reuben doesn’t go to a system like San Fran, Houston, Cleveland, or Buffalo where they allow the 4-down system to get off and attack, this is where it can start getting spooky. Can Reuben spot drop in a 3-4? Can he carry the tight end vertical? Can he peel on a RB to the flat in open space? Can he still be Reuben Bain knowing he’s not allowed to be as aggressive when the ball snaps? His aggressive style of play will be tested in a 6-tech. Something every edge rusher plays weekly on Sundays. These are all questions that arise if he doesn’t end up in a similar system to the one the Miami Hurricanes put him in.
