then routinely,
then proudly justified.
The air fills with slogans where oxygen used to be.
Those who warned are labeled hysterical,
then disloyal,
then unnecessary.
Silence is rewarded.
Obedience is praised as patriotism.
Fear is renamed order.
Children grow up learning caution instead of hope,
learning which words are safe,
which questions cost too much.
History stops being something we study
and becomes something we survive.
And when removal no longer happens,
when delay becomes destiny,
what follows will not be sudden.
It will be methodical,
legalized,
explained away in calm voices.
The danger is not the explosion.
It is the normalization of the fuse,
burning day after day,
while everyone pretends
the smell of smoke
