It's been a good run - several years - since the Field Geophysics class (GEOL 420) broke a cable in the field (luckily not too expensive). Not sure I can solder this one back together 🤔We had enough swings to get a good stack - but three channels were flaky. @CalPoly

Split Rock is a prominent knob in the Granite Mountains on the Sweetwater River used as a landmark for pioneers on the Oregon Trail. The cleft in the summit was caused by the weathering away of mafic dike that intruded along fractures in the Precambrian granite. #Wyoming 1/2

Setting up a 3D electrical resistivity survey over a landslide in Poly Canyon, and over an adjacent contact with Toro formation and Franciscan melange - will be a guide for interpreting the data. The local Cal Poly cows were quite interested, too!!

First seismic refraction data in GEOL 420 Applied Geophys class. Excellent data (except anomaly in the 1st arrival at geophone 2). Note - traces plotted against geophone number rather than offset here. But slope break easily seen. Geologic target is a shallow water table.

@AZGeology Is this from a map in the AZGS library?

The northern half of the Little Dragoon Mountains is cored by, in order of increasing age: Mississippian Escabrosa Limestone, Devonian Martin Limestone, and the Proterozoic Pioneer Shale and Pinal Schist. The Pinal Schist is the oldest rock exposed in southern Arizona.

2D Electrical Resistivity survey this morning with GEOL 420 Applied Geophysics class. Trying to figure out structure of a local thin alluvial aquifer, especially the bedrock - the variable outcrops make it ambiguous for now ... beautiful morning in San Luis Obispo 👍😀

Physical Scientist Marina Marcelli & Hydrologist Chris Ely recently conducted surface resistivity studies in the #MojaveDesert to determine the existence of a potential fault in the area, which had surface evidence but no subsurface investigations prior to this. #geophysics

GEOL 305 at Waterman Hills Detachment Fault (near Barstow, CA) we found the domino style normal faults in the hanging wall Fig. 4B in Glazner et al., 2002 Cenozoic Evolution of the Mojave Block in southern California (GSA Memoir 195, p 19-41). pubs.geoscienceworld.org/gsa/books/book…
