Hey All, My dad, George, has been trapped in this endless hospital-home-hospital loop for months; infections, falls, confusion. Yesterday, he fell out of bed and ended up back in the ER with a new UTI. We’re trying to break the cycle by getting him into a short-term physical rehab center so he can finally heal properly and come home for good. Medicare days are gone, so we have to pay privately. My personal stance on ridiculous armor is: Make it balanced. If women have bikini armor men can have fur loincloths. Just make it balanced. Everyone can have their eye candy of their preference or everyone can wear practical armor or both. But don't do the skimpy 'armor' for women and men are fully kitted out.

A cuirass does NOT need "boob bulges" to protect a woman's chest. All cuirasses have some open space, and anyone but Chesty Morgan or Minka can wear one comfortably. It annoys me every time they have special armor made for girls that is obviously designed ONLY to demonstrate that they have breasts. Or even worse, to protect ONLY the breasts, like those dumb armored bikinis. A woman can be gorgeous and martial without wearing ridiculous armor. (Also I did a subscriber post today about playtesting.)

A guy sits down in a movie theater and notices that the man in front of him has brought his dog and it's sitting in the seat next to him... He thinks it's unusual, but he likes dogs so he decides that as long as it's not a distraction he won't mention it. The movie starts and pretty soon there's a funny part. The dog makes some low woofing sounds that seem like laughter. In a little while there's a sad part and the dog appears to be weeping. This continues throughout the film and the man sitting behind the dog is astounded. When the lights come up he taps the dog's owner on the shoulder and tells him, "I gotta say, and I know it sounds weird, but it seemed like your dog really enjoyed this movie." The dog owner looks at the dog and nods. "I know, it really is weird," he says, "because he absolutely hated the book."

I was forced to train an intern. Spent 6 months teaching him everything I knew - every system, every client quirk, every shortcut I'd learned over five years. They made him my boss yesterday. Double my salary. Everyone in the conference room stared, waiting for a reaction. I just smiled and congratulated him. The next day, everyone froze when they opened my company-wide email. It said, "Effective immediately, I will no longer be providing training, guidance, or assistance to management. My role description does not include mentoring supervisors." HR called me into a meeting within an hour. My new boss looked panicked - he had no idea how to do half his job without me. Management tried to guilt me, saying I was being unprofessional and hurting the team. But here's the thing. I'd been doing two jobs for years. Fixing everyone's mistakes. Staying late while others went home. And for what? To watch someone I trained get the promotion I deserved? Now my boss keeps showing up at my desk with questions, and I redirect him to HR every single time. The tension is unbearable. My coworkers are divided - some think I'm brave, others say I'm being petty. ------ This is called performance punishment. You’re getting punished for being good at your job. And here is the part that makes it worse. When that promotion time comes around, they don’t promote you because you are too valuable exactly where you are. “We can’t afford to move you. You’re doing the work of three people.” So they promote the mediocre employee who has time to network and play politics because they are not buried under the workload that you created by being competent at your job. So stop being the best performer — start being strategic. Do your job well, but not exceptionally, because exceptional work gets you more work, not more money. And if they want exceptional performance, they can pay exceptional rates. Otherwise, you’re just working yourself into exhaustion while someone else gets your promotion.

Y'all thought I was kidding when I said the slippery slope is getting greased up. 3D Printer laws to prevent "gun prints" in the name of safety. Age verification... again, in the name of 'safety'. None of it matters if it's feasible. They don't care if you install the patch or not. That's not the goal. The fact these laws can be put in place give cover to "We need to search your apartment for illegal 3D printers and an OS that isn't properly patched". I know it sounds crazy, because it is. Look at the proposed community notes (if you can). It's a bunch of "Well, it only requires you type in your birthday!" as if that is something the gov't has any place in telling you. This is YOUR computer. This is YOUR 3D printer. This is YOUR firearm. And they will use your ownership against you with these laws.

Anonymous I manage a fast-food joint. Lunch rush. A guy came in and screamed at my cashier because his burger had pickles. He threw the burger at her. She’s 16. It’s her first job. She ran to the back crying. I walked out from the kitchen. I picked up the burger. I looked at the guy. "Get out," I said. "But my refund—" "Get. Out." I said. "You don't get to treat people like trash for $5." He left. I went to the back. My cashier was wiping her eyes. "I'm sorry," she sobbed. "I messed up." "You didn't mess up," I told her. "Pickles are a mistake. Cruelty is a choice." I gave her the rest of the day off with pay. Protect your team. The customer isn't always right. Sometimes the customer is just a bully.
