We tracked Plasmodium knowlesi in wild macaque faeces across 9 countries in Southeast & South Asia — 4,752 samples, 8.2% positivity.
First large-scale field evidence that faecal DNA surveillance can monitor zoonotic malaria without invasive animal handling.
A scalable, ethical approach that could integrate into wastewater & environmental monitoring systems for early warning of spillover risk.

Update on #mpox, a 🧵
In September, 42 countries reported 3135 confirmed #mpox cases and 12 deaths. Over 80% of the cases were in Africa, where 17 countries continue to experience active transmission.
Kenya and Liberia are showing upward trends in reported cases.

Local community transmission of clade Ib is expanding beyond Africa, and cases have been reported among men who have sex with men.
