🏀Greetings! I have a good friend who just got hired as a Head Girls Basketball Coach in the McKinney, TX area at a 6A school and she’s looking for an assistant coach. One of my "hotter" takes on this subject is every high school could implement this tomorrow, and it wouldn't make a big difference.
99% of 14-18 year olds don't care about money.
They care about dating, friends, making varsity, and getting As & Bs so mom/dad don't yell at them.

@CBS11BillJones @LadyMustangBB @uiltexas This is the biggest reason why it’s bad. A team can win district and have the same path to state as a 4th place team in the old format. This new format has made winning district pointless.

Coaches I know don’t like it primarily due to fact we now have district champions who have earned a better seed getting worse draws than 3rd/4th place teams in a district… aside from the fact we also now don’t have 4-team regional or state tournaments.

Ridiculous decision by @uiltexas to split playoffs into 2 divisions. You have to do it in football; can only play once a week. But it makes no sense in basketball & other sports. No more regional tournaments, no state tournament & unlucky early round draws for top teams.

The “boring” stuff (catch and shoot, pull up, finished off of two) is what you will use in the game more than the 5 move combo you saw on a Tik Tok

PLAYERS, I challenge you to try this out… Watch a full game (high school, college or pro) and write down how each basket is scored Examples: Catch and shoot 3s Coming off a DHO Hitting the roll man for a lay up One dribble pull up And see how many 45 dribble combo moves you see/write down…. (Most likely not many) Then, after the game is over, tailor your own workouts to what you wrote down. Because those are the skills you actually need to be successful Something powerful about writing it down and visually seeing it on paper!
