I love the idea of the World Championship on African soil, But I’d love it more if an African was playing for it… The real gap here is not location, it’s pipeline, the talent is in Africa, always has been. What’s missing is the ecosystem to grow it…..
Fawole John Oyeyemi@OyeyemiFawole

No World Chess Championship match has ever been played on African soil. Gukesh vs Sindarov is confirmed. FIDE should bring it to Nairobi, Kenya. No home advantage for either player. If this happens, it would be a big moment for African chess.

An artwork I created was taken, altered using AI, and then presented to an artist as if it was original work. When questioned, the person denied both using AI and copying my piece. I.G @sympli.zikky

The design decision here is more clever than people realize. 25,000 km of rivers run through the Amazon basin. The team behind "Visite Amazônia" took satellite imagery of every one of them, traced the actual geographic coordinates, and extracted an entire alphabet from the bends and confluences. Every letter in that logo is a real piece of river. The "A" is a tributary fork. The curves in the script follow actual water flow patterns captured from space. They didn't approximate the shapes. They mapped them. Then they brought in artists from all 9 Amazonian states to layer regional culture on top. Winny Tapajós, an indigenous Tapajó artist, built the illustrations around the existing letterforms. Nine different cultural perspectives on one shared river system. The part that gets me: the Amazon carries 20% of all river water on Earth through a basin larger than India. And they compressed that into a typeface you can download for free. Most regional branding is a committee selecting a color palette. This is cartography disguised as typography.

🇧🇷 A Amazônia Brasileira ganhou a sua marca oficial, criada com base nas coordenadas reais do Rio Amazonas e seus afluentes. As letras não foram desenhadas. Foram extraídas do próprio território. 🤯

India is the world's largest producer of mangos, growing roughly 45-50% of the world's mangos every year. However, less than 1% of those mangos get exported due to the fact that people in India eat almost all of them.

🚨 Historical decision by Union Berlin as German club appoint Marie-Louise Eta as their head coach until June. Union lost at Heidenheim, sacked the head coach Steffen Baumgart and put Marie-Louise Eta in charge until the end of the season. Ets becomes the first female head coach in the history of men’s Bundesliga.

This has been weighing heavily on me, and I can’t stay quiet about it any longer. I am 71 years old. I’ve been fortunate enough to attend five World Cups, starting in 1986. Those tournaments weren’t just events to me, they were life chapters. They were about connection, about culture, about standing shoulder to shoulder with people from every corner of the world, united by the game we love. But what I’m seeing now breaks my heart. The current dynamic pricing strategy for the upcoming World Cup feels completely detached from the very soul of football. Yes, this tournament is being played mostly in the United States, and yes, it’s a premium market. But football was never meant to be a luxury product reserved for the highest bidder. It belongs to the people. Always has. I looked back fondly at USA 94 and everything we did then to fill stadiums and bring the game to life for Americans who were just dipping their toes into the water of the beautiful game. Right now, it feels like the average, passionate supporter, the ones who save for years, who travel across continents, who bring the color, the noise, the spirit, are being pushed out. Replaced by a model that prioritizes revenue over reality. That’s a dangerous road because once you lose the authentic fan, you lose the essence of what makes the World Cup special. I say this not just as a fan, but as someone who has spent a lifetime in and around the game. During my time at EA SPORTS, we stood shoulder to shoulder with FIFA when they needed it most. Our game kept millions of fans connected to football and to the World Cup when trust in the organization was at its lowest. We helped carry the flame. Which is why this moment feels even more disappointing. This may well be one of the last World Cups I have the chance to attend and I find myself wondering if the game I’ve loved all my life is slowly drifting away from people like me, and far more importantly, from the next generation who deserve to feel what I felt in 1986. The World Cup should unite the world. Not divide it by price. Football deserves better. And so do the fans. Come on @FIFAcom , sort this out… It’s not too late.

Na Rússia, uma mulher percebeu que seu gato massageava sua garganta todas as noites; dias depois, descobriu um problema na tireoide. Há quem acredite que gatos sentem problemas de saúde e usam o ronronar para acalmar.

tl;dr for those who don't want to read the whole NYT article: - John Carreyrou, the journalist who exposed the Theranos fraud, spent a year building the case that Adam Back is Satoshi - Back essentially blueprinted every core Bitcoin concept on Cypherpunk mailing lists a decade before Bitcoin launched - Back went silent on those lists exactly when Satoshi appeared, then resurfaced right after Satoshi vanished - Text analysis scanned 34,000 users across three cryptography mailing lists and 134,000+ posts, filtered to 620 who discussed digital cash. From there, layering in Satoshi's writing quirks (British spellings, hyphenation errors, obscure crypto terms) narrowed it to one person: Back - When confronted in person, Back denied it but allegedly slipped into first person when responding to a Satoshi quote - Satoshi's email exchanges with everyone, including other candidates like Hal Finney, are pretty straightforward. The 2008 emails with Back are the anomaly, containing contradictions that even Back himself has publicly acknowledged don't add up. When asked to provide the metadata for those emails, Back refused. I personally still think there's a convincing case for Hal Finney, or that it's a consortium of people, but this is the most methodical, evidence-dense case I've seen for a single Satoshi candidate. Certainly more convincing than the documentary "Money Electric" that settled on Peter Todd.
The New York Times@nytimes

Bitcoin’s founder, Satoshi Nakamoto, has remained hidden for 17 years. A trail of clues — and a year of digging by our reporter, John Carreyrou — led us to a 55-year-old computer scientist in El Salvador named Adam Back. nyti.ms/4bXWC3V

What would you ask a god who grants the opposite of what you wish? In 1977, TRUST magazine wrote about Utekon village near Benin City, where the Orinmworha deity was believed to grant only the reverse of a worshipper’s request. Anyone who asked to be protected from death would be killed. Anyone who asked to be rich would never become wealthy. It was one of the most feared deities in what was then Bendel State.
