Imagine this: a teenage garbage collector in a quiet English town buys a £1 lottery ticket on a whim and wakes up a multimillionaire.
In November 2002, 19-year-old Michael Carroll from Norfolk scooped £9.7 million (nearly £10 million) in the UK National Lottery.
Already on benefits and wearing an electronic tag for petty crimes when he claimed the prize, he became an instant tabloid sensation dubbed the "Lotto Lout" or "King of Chavs."
He quit his binman job overnight and dove headfirst into excess.
He bought a mansion, turned its grounds into a chaotic demolition derby track for crashing cars, splurged on dozens of vehicles, gold jewelry, and wild parties.
He blew fortunes on cocâine, alcohol, gambling, and hiring prostitutes once boasting of sleeping with thousands of women. He gifted large sums to family and friends, but the wild lifestyle took over: daily lines of coke, half-bottles of vodka for breakfast, and constant legal troubles.
Within about eight years, by 2010, the money vanished. He declared bankruptcy, lost the mansion, and ended up broke and homeless at times. Remarkably, he reapplied for his old refuse collector job, later shifting to manual work like delivering coal in Scotland.
Today, Michael says he has no regrets those wild years were the "best" of his life for a pound, but he's happier now with a simple, stable routine. From rags to riches and back again, his story is a wild cautionary tale of sudden wealth gone unchecked.

In January 2009, the world was stunned by an incredible medical milestone: a single mom from California gave birth to **eight babies at once the first surviving octuplets in history.
Nadya Suleman (later known as Natalie), then 33, already had six young children at home. All her kids, including the octuplets, were conceived through in vitro fertilization (IVF).
During her final treatment, 12 embryos were transferred far beyond standard guidelines resulting in the extraordinary pregnancy.
On January 26, after a carefully planned C-section involving 46 medical staff at Kaiser Permanente in Bellflower, California, she welcomed six boys and two girls: Noah, Maliyah, Isaiah, Nariyah, Jonah, Makai, Josiah, and Jeremiah.
All were born premature but healthy, weighing between about 1.5 and 3 pounds, and they all survived a true rarity.
The images of Nadya's enormous belly and her cradling the tiny newborns sparked global fascination and debate.
While hailed as a miracle by some, others questioned the ethics of the procedure and her ability to raise 14 children alone. The story thrust her into the spotlight as "Octomom," sparking controversy over fertility practices.
Today, the octuplets are thriving teenagers, and Nadya has stepped back from fame to focus on her big family. This astonishing event remains one of the most remarkable chapters in reproductive medicine.

In 1996, a chilling obsession turned dêâdly for 21-year-old Ricardo López, a Uruguayan-American exterminator living in Florida, who became fixated on Icelandic singer **Björk**.
What began as intense fandom spiraled into darkness. On his 21st birthday in January, López started recording obsessive video diaries over 20 hours in total documenting his delusions.
He viewed Björk as a symbol of "purity," but felt betrayed by her relationships, particularly with Black musician Goldie, fueling racist rage and misogynistic thoughts.
Over nine months, he meticulously planned her mûrder. He initially considered infecting her with HIV via syringes but settled on a letter bomb: a hollowed-out book rigged with springs and sulfuric acid to spray acid into her face upon opening, disguised as a gift from her record label.
On September 12, 1996, López mailed the package to Björk's London home. He returned to his apartment, set up the camera, painted his face in red, green, and black (to distort his appearance for family), played her music, and filmed his suicide by shooting himself in the head.
Police discovered his body four days later, along with the tapes, journals, and evidence.
Thankfully, authorities intercepted the bomb before it reached Björk she was unharmed. The footage later surfaced online, becoming infamous in disturbing internet circles, and even inspired documentaries like *The Video Diary of Ricardo López*.
This tragic case highlights the dangers of unchecked celebrity obsession.
