Two words for the Socialists: completely irresponsible. They chose to kill the deal on extending rules on the detection and reporting of child sexual abuse online. That means - shielding online predators and leaving children unprotected! They knew that any changes beyond the EPP Group’s single technical amendment - already backed by Member States - would force the file back into long negotiations, creating a protection gap. Protecting children should never be about political games. And yet, they went ahead. So did Renew, ECR, and the Greens. By doing so, these groups blocked the only workable solution to maintain the detection and reporting of child sexual abuse online. Let’s be clear: what is illegal offline must also be illegal online. @JihadalHaqq Besides assumptions about internet discourse, I have seen no credible evidence that gen Z is more puritanical than previous generations. Women 18 - 24 now report having more sex with more partners than older gens (though it's still a lot more modest than one could think)

This is a side effect of the higher rates of social isolation among Gen Z. It's not pointed out much but envy (or Nietzsche's "ressentiment") is a powerful driver of social culture and politics, up to and include sexual envy that manifests on the surface as "puritanism".

By taking this path, these groups have blocked the only workable solution to maintain detection and reporting of child sexual abuse online. “Despite EPP efforts, S&D failed to lead the process, preventing an agreement with EU Member States. This is completely irresponsible,” said Javier Zarzalejos MEP, EPP Group negotiator on the file. “Protecting children is not optional,” said Lena Düpont MEP, EPP Group spokeswoman on Legal and Home Affairs. “Stop hiding behind excuses and take responsibility.
